Watches with barometers are fun, but they have expensive appetites for batteries.

I've not found a wristwatch for >$750k. That won't buy much of a jet.

John Harrison's H5 would cost more than a jet I bet. Hope that Worshipful Company of Clockmakers has stout lockes on their doores :D

This one is closer to $2.5m: Aeternitas - Franck Muller

There is one by Hublot that goes for around $5m.

Then there are of course old watches that are pricey for their history. Too bad bisco didn't have the Patek Philippe Caliber 89 pocket watch. Last estimated at over $11m.

I concede the point. Vacheron made a watch with 57 'complications' which appears to be the goal up there.

Snuffling about revealed no watches with complications based on Chinese calendar and astrology. This may represent a market opportunity, as one hears of Zhong Ren with far more money than sense.

I'd prefer an $11 million jet though. Retrofit a sunroof and good to go.

    I'd prefer $11m in commercial travel. :D

The whole private plane/jet thing is seriously overrated.

I really wish an airline would bring back the unlimited FC travel voucher for life.

Flying one's own plane costs much more than purchase price, even if one avoids denting the thing. For many who do, though, it's a powerful addiction.

I live in one of few countries were private aviation does not really exist. Cold turkey...

I was just at the Sonoma Raceway today where netjets was a sponsor. The made their program sound good, then I checked out their pricing and website and that “convenience” would be hard to justify;).

    Commercial for me(y).

Major problem with rent-a-jets is you don't get to sit in row zero.

NetJet is a good program. I almost joined SurfAir but they had little interest in expanding a "home base" closer to where I am making it less useful except for booking empty leg flights.

My rough figure is $10k USD/hr for a jet. That includes pilots, landings fees, fuel, whatever. 3 hours away, $30K cost. Renting a private jet, you should be able to justify that expense somehow. Either because your time is that valuable or you just really value convenience or because you are a group getting basically a charter flight where the cost per head can be less. But when I go places, I don't generally bring my 10 closest friends with me so I don't get such a volume discount...

$10k/hr is far above market bottom. Rent-a-jet companies bleed money whenever equipment is on the ground. Gotta start thinking of yourself as what they need instead of other way around.

Not saying it's likely to happen - just realize you are boss if you want to be.

Netjets has the price at ~$6 k per hour with a 25 hour minimum:cool:.

My time is not that valuable and I can live with the small time inconvenience of flying to major airports;).

    But se la vie (y).

C’est la vie, s’il vous plaît

I'd start with charters <$3000/hr and negotiate down from there :)

When I priced them out, it was much higher than that...

Something like 1/16th of the jet cost upfront, about $500K USD for most of them basically and that's for 50 hours a year. Then it was about $10K/month in various fees for keeping the jet parked. So if you fly nowhere, you're paying $500K upfront (and missing out on that as investment money) and $120K/yr. Then if you do actually go somewhere it is like $2K/hour but then you also have to pay airport fees, security fees, fuel surcharges, etc. Since a plane is a severely depreciating asset, you're never getting that $500K back, maybe some percentage of it back at best if you can find another sucker.

That's why I preferred SurfAir's model. No ownership. You pay a membership fee and a per use fee and get access to purchase empty segments.

If helicoptering floats yer boat, try Papillon at Grand Canyon. They had a bird down recently and may not be in as good shape as website touts.

~1994 I was at Havasupai with 3 others, one of who hiked down in new boots (dumb) and thus could not walk out. Horse and heli out-options were both $50 pp. Easy decision. Having brought only short trousers I was not prepared to sit on a horse for 2 or 3 hours. Whee!

Plus, Havasu horsies have been slagged for maltreatment. Whole 'nother story.

Don't know why I'm trying to get Toaster to part with his hard-earned bitcoins here. Just play I guess. A tedious other task awaits me and y'all are negative beneficiaries.
