but.. for me.. I now have the same 1 liter bottle only I can now fill it with 2 liters of soda and not need to drink or constantly remove soda because the 1 liter bottle cant handle more than 1 liter...

but Jerry made the biggest clarity below... a Plug-in Prius uses the battery power differently.. That's why when people ask me if will I try it on a non-plugin, since I havent reversed engineered one like my Plug-in, at first glance I don't see the benefit but... I installed one of my Plugin battery modules into a Gen 2... thatll give me a lot of my unknown knowledge since I'm only using a 1.1kWh Lithium battery module in a vehicle that came with a 6500mAh Nimh which equates to 1.31kWh but the NiMh to Lithium conversion isn't 1:1

Here is some other claity things to think about... the 2017 Prius Prime has 8.8kWh and can obtain ~30miles EV range full charge. My 2013 came with 4.4kWh and ~14 mile EV range. Where the Prime can use HV battery to propel it past 80mph, my 2013 didnt have that feature(I made a post where we figured out what I need from the Prime to see if I can achieve the same)and as of right now I think the cutoff of the HV is at 25mph and it always will kick on ICE while driving... I need to be able to use only EV mode past 80mph but also... not have any safety holds from the factory like the Prime has...once I figure out how to use 95% power when the pedal touches the floor ill be happy. In my prime fully charged even in PWR mode, it feels like the car is limited from using all power at full tilt.. almost like say 40% initially then it gradually applies a higher percentage of power through 80mph.. why... in order to beat a Tesla RWD at a stop light on a short not long to next red light race... the rear electric motor I am using with ~268hp controlled via a canbus controller... I'm more than certain I'll be able to program the rear engine to use more HV battery power to propel me faster, just need the overall system to give me say 95% full power when the pedal is at 100% though 80mph... still folowing? Gen 5 Prime has a 13.5kWh battery if i remember correcty and is at 44miles EV range... That would mean for me to get 100 mile range on a full charge a 30kWh battery is needed. Tesla PLAID has 100kWh battery... me getting the ~72kWh battery like the one in a BZ4x.... 200 miles or more on full EV charge!!

AND MORE THEN ENOUGH JUICE TO POWER A PRIUS IN A WINNING RACE AGAINST A RWD TESLA!!!
disclaimer: using the new 2.0L won't get me there, I need to also swap in the HYBRID MAX motor with ~260hp to have a beastly AWD Prius with 500hp of Hybrid power....

Ah right, you do have a plug in i almost forgot about that.

Did you say you have a rear motor to your prius? Or was that about the tesla?

I have the motor.. and as of last Friday finally have a good 3D scan of the OE rear subframe used in the Prius,Corolla and other Toyota Lexus Hybrid AWD vehicles...

Now its time to mak the magic happen... I need $15k to purchase the AI software to do all the design work for me so now.. im doing the marriage the old school human way!

    canbus controlled and ~268hp
    upload_2023-9-18_10-44-22.png

its pretty crazy the difference between using a consumer 3D scanner versus a $30k professional scanner...
    upload_2023-9-18_10-45-41.png

I also need to scan in either side with the axle, spindle, and rear strut from the Gen 4 then the 3D scan of the rear under the body of my Gen 3... now.. the Gen 4 Prime... this is a direct bolt-on versus the weld mounting bolts option thats needed on the Gen 3 Prius and Gen 2 I have...

and some food for thought... the Gen 3 1.8L can easily fit the engine bay of a Gen2 Prius... thatll be fun once im done with my Gen 3 stuff! I am just now trying to 3D scan as many hybrid motors and CVT's as I can to then find what works best in which generation size wise without needing to modify the front suspension and steering components. Also, stumbled on the fact that the Rav4 Prime and the 2023 Prius Prime have identical CVT's... you know what that means right? yep, I plan to boldly go where no other Prius owner has gone before!

So you have it but you havnt put it on yet? You lost me there.

Also im more concerned about how you plan to program it to work as AWD. If you havnt done so already. Are you just splicing them together on the same wires and hope for the best?

And yes i was aware lots of toyota hybrids share the same cvt, for example sienna and highlander use the same one. Even Ford bought the license back in around 2010 to copy the design and make their own for their hybrids like the ford fusion or maverick. And their mercury and lincoln brands.

What are you suggesting, you plan to switch prius prime and rav4 prime cvt? Theyre the same though.

From what I read, the engine will run the generators to charge the hybrid, like the reguler Prius.
And charge it, so you do not have to plug it in to charge it.

It doesn't make much sense if you have to plug it in to charge the battery.

In a non plugin, that would be true. But you seem to have missed the fact that the car in question is a plugin and they do not work like your description. They draw from the battery and only the battery until the battery charge is low enough to require that the ICE start up and propel the car. It stays like that, running like a regular hybrid until the driver plugs in the car again so he can drive on the electric motor again. With twice the capacity in the battery, one can drive twice as far before needing to run the engine or plug in again.[/QUOTE]

I needed the subframe in CAD to spec to then redesign it to hold the larger electric motor. The motor is CAN bus controlled and when wired into a controller that uses the CAN bus signals to take the pedal position and makes the motor run... easiest way to put it.
Comments about hoping and splicing means you don't know about what's already been done with Prius Inverters and the CVT's nor the world of DIYEV... When I realized the Prius forums only knew about 1/2 of what the DIYEV guys are doing, thats when I realized to go for my goals and dreams while not worrying about what people say cant be done! I can do anything I put my mind to!

I'm saying, once I get my hands on my own Gen 5 Prius Prime... I will begin the work to swap in the 2.5L as the CVT's are the same and I wont have to go through what I've had to go through to get the 2.0L motor working in a Gen 3 Prius with the Gen 3 Prius CVT...I just wish the Hybrid Max motor used the same CVT! Well, i don't want to cancel out that it doesn't or that there is a close enough similarity in the reverse engineering so it wont be like what ive done to make the 2.0L work... I think you missed my point in that... the Gen 5 Prius appears to be an easy swap to use the 2.5L motor...

I might need to take some public writing classes... no.. the rear electric engine will be additional driving power to achieve a significant wow factor in the increased performance of my Prius.I will be converting the level 2 charging system to chademo so that a full charge can be obtained in less than 60 minutes.

Having larger capacity batteries means yes I can run in EV mode longer and have the power from battery capacity to run the rear motor at full tilt in a street race with a Tesla while also improving my of pavement traction by having the rear wheels provide additional traction for me.

The whole concept of a plugin prius is that you can charge the batteries at a charging station and it run in EV only mode until the battery is depleted then ICE kicks in... also when you use dynamic cruise set while driving say down a steep highway for many miles like in Colorado... the braking performed by the crusie to keep you at the set speed charges the PIP HV batteries so by the time you are on flat highway you have generated enough energy to have fully charged your plugin battery. True story when i drove out of Colorado

the thing is, you need a plugin, its the only one with enough power to run a large electric motor based on my research this far.

Not even warm. @Raytheeagle might chime in...

Ok, a clue: it's quite visible, and there's also something missing.

    Very warm.

ok: the “absence” is a charge port door, and the mod is Plug-In Prius rims (no covers ever), that have been languishing in our crawl space for 4~5 years.

No, 15” PIP (3rd Gen Plug-in Prius) rims. Designed to look finished without a plastic cover. Got them some years back from a Priuschatter in California. Had a little curb rash, cleaned that up and touch up painted with a Classic Silver Metallic pen (1F7), plus waxed.

We have the 17’s; will use these 15’s through winter, for now. Scored extra (E-Bay) centre caps as well.

Thanks for finally telling us what you actually did... It's an annoying waste of time to make us guess because we don't know your car as well as you want us to.

I worked on a Prius once with those wheels. Aren't those the Persona limited edition wheels? They're huge and look great with low profile tires but are really hard to protect from getting scratched and dinged and look awful once they do.

    Yeah fair enough.

They're similar, but the original (Classic Silver Metallic, 1F7) (stock on CDN "Touring" model, with LED headlights, a few other things). They got their share of curb-rash in the early days; my technique evolved to first going over the damage with a glass-fiber burnishing pen, then following up with a stroke of a Toyota Touch-Up pen, just the colour coat, skip the clearcoat.

They're were the only decent-looking 3rd gen rim in 2010, till the advent of the 2012 Plug-In version, with it's 15" rim.

Never heard of "glass-fiber burnishing pen" but I think I want one... What other uses have you found it good for?

Duplicate-Color is how I found them, but you can buy dedicated pens thus I think. Just a very surgical and tough abrasive, perfect for prepping curb rash for touch up paint.
