Why did you kill it? They're not poisonous are they? If they're around your house, they've probably got a food source there which often times consists of other pest species like mice and rats.

I do not know. I just don't get the mentality of killing things just because they come in contact with your house or yard when they're not even a hazard to have around. Seems a lot of this goes on.

"I" didn't kill it, I didn't even want to kill it... I was trying to herd it into a trash can until my friend to arrive to check it out and probably release it somewhere less populated. It was until the snake wouldn't cooperate with my efforts and escaped into my neighbors yard that it was killed... by my neighbor. He's been known to do things like that, he's killed armadillos in other neighbors yards... I wasn't willing to kill it, though I was willing to make an effort to get it to a safer place.

Gotcha. Sorry I misunderstood. I've got neighbors like that too. Kill anything that's not of human form.

We have a spider removal system. It consists of a plastic cup with the words Spider Remover on it and it kept at the base of a cupboard. When the spider alert goes off, it's all hands on deck, any nearby recyclable envelope or light cardboard is recruited to serve as the insertion platform. This is slid under the cup which serves as a temporary confinement chamber. Once the nerves have calmed and the platform/chamber is stable, a door is opened and the intruder is gently escorted to the hinterlands of our property to begin a new life. We do not enforce a three strikes law.

And if your neighbor has trouble with rats and mice in the coming months, remind him he only has himself to blame.

Damn right. Reminds me of the Middle Ages, when they killed cats because of superstition; then rats bred like, well, rats and so the plague brought irony to a whole new level.

First house had cockroachs galore (initially). One actually dropped down off the ceiling between my neck and shirt after waking up one morning. This is what actually started the break dancing craze that swept the nation. Me No Likum Cockroaches.

Present house has wolf spiders showing up on occasion. I have only found remnants of cockroach shells in the present house. (The other house occupants do not like the wolf spider so an occasional elimination of a 'blind' wolf spider is necessary.) Me Likum Wolf Spiders.

    These get sprayed
    [IMG]
They give a nasty bite resulting in flesh dying and long recovery. They are very common. About an inch long.

    These get sprayed
    [IMG]
They make you sick and can kill children and elderly, they are about an inch across the legs.

Fortunately these guys haven't come inside my house
    [IMG]
They can kill but there is an antivenom

This guy gets put outside in some long grass (Shingleback)
No venom and not harmful to gardens. They will bite and cause infection so should be handled with respect.
These blokes are the same as shinglebacks in required response

Blue tongues are my favorite local lizard, I have a family of them in my back yard. They can get under the fences if they choose. Both types of lizard have been in my house. I also have small frogs living in the soil. I never use pesticides outside my house.

    Flies and mosquitos get sprayed.
