    No.
I am saying there is a difference between EV mode (no ICE except to protect the system) and EV auto which is similar to PiP's EV mode only the threshold of ICE firing is much higher.
PiP EV driving is limited to ~38 kW (by battery). Prime EV auto EV driving is limited IMO to 53 kW (MG2 rating, battery can supply up to 68 kW).

but prime still has all the caveats for when the ice might fire in ev mode, and some owners are reporting quite a bit.

We need more data from owners in order to judge.
Since EV auto threshold is very high, I can see owners reporting initially: EV auto - no ICE.
I can also see new owners confusing between EV and EV auto in their initial reports.
I have no reason not to believe the manual and the marketing statements plus all the experts reports saying: floor the pedal and you still in EV driving (in EV mode).
Toyota always had some restrictions to protect the system and I do not see it as a flaw on the contrary. Example: ICE fires when the hybrid system (battery?) temp is extremely high.

I have yet to have the ICE fire when in EV or EV Auto mode except when the EV charge was used up. I have not tried mashing the accelerator though.

It will switch to HV when the grid charge is gone no matter which EV mode it is in, but there is two EV modes.

The default EV mode the car starts in which tries to keep the car's operation electric as much as possible, and EV auto which allows the ICE to turn on more often. This thread is on what exactly EV auto operation parameters are.

Presumable, EV auto has lower thresholds on when the ICE fires up. Sounds like the dual motor operation of EV mode is not available, and ICE will come online for heavy acceleration. That makes sense because heavy acceleration will drain the grid charge quicker, and EV auto is likely trying to preserve that for when it is most efficient like the PiP.

that's what makes sense, but giora is saying the opposite, i think. but as he said, we need more owners experience, because the manual is not terribly enlightening.

I think the best thing is for Prime drivers to just drive around a bit using EV AUTO and then comment here on their findings. That would be the most realistic and accurate information.

I don't think so, as I understand @Trollbait comment, he was trying to convey the same message I did but with his own words.

sorry, i thought you were saying the ice would fire easier in ev than ev auto. my mistake.

you're saying ev auto threshold is very high.

trolllbait is saying ev auto has lower threshold.

I am saying EV auto threshold is very high compared to PiP EV mode (and absolutely high). trollbait is comparing it to Prime's EV mode.

this thread being about prime, what does ev auto do, is what had me confused, thank you.

what is your opinion of the differences between prime 'ev' vs 'ev auto'?

The simplest way to put the differences as I see it.
EV mode stays electric whenever possible.
EV auto is blended plug in hybrid operation.

We've been comparing EV auto to the PiP, but the battery size means its exact operation will be closer to the Ford Energis.

If "whenever possible" means always except when ICE is started by the system to protect itself from being damaged - I agree.
In other words, my perception of Prime's EV mode is: EV drive period, I think that in EV mode there is no torque demand threshold above it ICE will fire. The exception is when system needs protection from being damaged.

Yes, plus ICE firing for climate control.

You mean front defogger? then yes, and this can be perceived as safety feature.

that's what i think to. and what do you think ev auto does? edit: just read post #41. interesting, so you think ev auto will use up ev unless you require more power?
