    The OP stipulated that you would positively have to stop: no chance to time the light.

    Ok, then hit the brake lightly early. The generator can create more electricity at 40 mph vs. 20 mph. If you find out you need to hit more brake at lower speed, chances are that the friction pads will kick in (due to slow wheel spin).
