...yeah with a roof box I am almost competing with minivan as far as storage capacity. I luv hatchbacks and wagons and minivans anyways, that's generally all I ever buy. I also have a minivan. Used to have 2 minivans.

Rob- YouTube video below by Toyota gives all details on Gen-III vs Gen-II
As far as luggage capacity, the guy says Gen-III has "just a bit" more space than Gen-II
He says Gen-III has +3 cu ft more of total interior space vs. Gen-II.
Some of that extra space is in the trunk, quantified as +1 cuft (28 liters) extra for Gen-III (EU specs) in another post. Overall Gen-III car is 1/2-inch longer and 3/4-inch wider than Gen-II (same height).

    >>Therefore the 16 vs. 22 cuft trunk space comparison (GenII vs GenIII) often shown in specs on car web sites is not the true difference. The true difference (best I can figure) is more like 21 cuft vs. 22cuft GenII vs GenIII.

...further on the issue of Gen-III cargo space, not sure if anyone understands how Toyota USA calculates 21.45 cuft.
Possibly there is about ~6 cuft above the tonneau cover but the numbers still don't add up properly (see YouTube video for Gen-III cargo space numbers)

Therefore, a better comparative idea of Gen-III cargo space is gained by looking at Toyota Canada specs = 15.7 cuft
I was not able to locate equivalent Gen2 numbers for Canada, but most sources quote 14.4 cuft
