Wikipedia does state that, but no date was ever explicitly stated in any of the episodes. The 2062 date is inferred from a reference suggesting that the show takes place 100 years into the future. Given that the year was 1962, that gives us the 2062 date.

We're not going to make it.
Ever the optimist....I think that 2062 will be pretty cool, but I don't see "The Jetsons". We have 50 years to go.....so you never know. ;)

There is a very, very remote thinking-outside-the-box possibility:

Would Contact with Extraterrestrials Benefit or Harm Humanity?
    A Scenario Analysis

Department of Geography, Department of Meteorology Penn State Univ.
    NASA Planetary Science Division

    ETI Visit.jpg

WIth any luck the ETI visitors would be of the beneficial kind, and wouldn't eat us.
They might be up to speed on vehicular applications of anti-gravity technology
    for terrestrial vehicles.

Yeah, pretty mundane stuff for ETI. Maybe it would be so prosaic they'd give it to us
    as an engineering/economic give-away.

Then the grand kids might drive Star Wars type speeders/transporters.

Civilian-ized versions, a la the Hummer, of:

    AT-RT

    Speeder Bike

And if the beneficial ETI arrival happens before 2062, Jetson-type
transportation would be feasible as well. :p

Realistically I see the cars of 2025 being very similar to what we drive today. They will be mostly ICE but will use turbocharged 3 and 4 cylinder engines with direct injection and stop/start technology. Full hybrids and electric cars will still be a minority but a larger percentage than what we see today.

At least that is the strategy being put forth by automakers to meet the 2025 CAFE requirement of 54.5 mpg.
