What kind of map data does prime use?

Another thing worth mentioning is sd cards have a 2gb limit and a lot of legacy stuff like digital cameras can't read or write sd cards greater then 2gb, regardless if it's fat32 or exfat, heh. That's why they make sdhc cards

 

Don't try formatting a camera card on any computer (for use in a camera). Format that directly in the camera you intend to use it with, if that's what you are trying to do.

 

while we are on the subject of maps, I have an off topic gps question

When you tap the screen to go into cross hairs mode, how in the heck do you go back to normal mode ??

In order to recenter the cursor I have to either turn the car off or select That cross hair target as a destination
And navigate to it

 

Press home.

 

I was just wondering the same thing, and hadn't taken the time to wade through the Navigation manual to try to find it. In previous generations you pressed the 'map' button that was next to the display, but that isn't an option on the Prime.

 

Thank you! This would have driven me nuts since I am used to hitting the MAP button to go back to current position.

 

So, has anyone tried the Map Updates from Toyota Map Updates ?

 

that website says that you need 4GB Micro SD Card, the card in my Prime is 16GB and as I was describing a few posts up, it didn't work for me but I only have a 64GB card on hand

 

In one of the text files (HD0\VERSION.TXT), it says:

"data\CDDB\ce2105_rev8886_edb16986001_NA_le_20160417234141.txt"

I wonder if it's possible to download HERE maps on Android and transfer its content over...

 

Bottom of the touch screen, just left of center is soft button to center map to current location.
Button doesn't always appear in many situations.
App does need more back buttons.

Here Maps has not been owned by Nokia for a few years now. They sold it to a group of car manufacturers.

In the good old days before it was wrecked by former Microsoft man Steven Elop, Nokia was the first company to challenge the Tom Toms and other Sat Nav manufacturers by offering free maps for life to all Nokia phone owners. They invented that idea of free map updates. Many many years ago. But that was a very different Nokia than we have now.

It may be that the reason that the phone map data is given for free is the value that is gained from so many phone users in the form of the traffic data that is provided when these phone apps are used. Which helps the car Nav folk like us with traffic re routing and accurate traffic dependent journey times etc. Just a guess.
