What range would make you plug in less or not at all?

Obviously it seems like range is holding up really well for most of us. But say the theoretical happens and range starts going way down over the next 3-6 years. At what point would you say, for you personally, would it become less likely you would plug in very often, if at all?

For me, in my current life and distances I drive, it would take going down to about 6 miles of range to plug in a lot less. If I got down to 3 or 4, I might not plug in at all.

Again, this is all just theoretical. Hopefully our range never goes that low.

i think i would continue, we have a few 1 and 2 mile trips that we do daily. and actually, you get way more out of ev on trips where the ice would not warm up all the way. a lot of lift back people want 5 miles on the gen IV.

I would still plugin also, to cover those very short trips.

I stopped charging for about 5 months due to low gas price. It is now back to $2.53 and my electricity rate is $0.18 so I have been charging again for 2 months.

seems to be the cutoff point. i figure .24 electricity is = to $3. gas. i'll cut off my nose to spite my wallet though.

Yeah the cutoff for me would be cost not range. Even if I got a mile of range left, it's a mile I don't have to use more expensive gasoline. The point at which I would stop charging is when the battery stops accepting a charge. At that point, I would assume I'd get a battery fault light and would need to get it replaced.

    Hello Everyone,
We purchased plugins to save gas. We would rather pay the electric company than give our cash to the Middle East.

We will continue to charge until the battery fails and get it replaced and start all over again.

My situation is completely different than yours, guys (well, except for Jan Treur I suspect).
EV (from the grid) mile is about 4.5 times cheaper than gas mile here (for Prius that is).
On the other hand PIP price is 18% higher than regular prius price.
So, to me it is simple - I will not stop charging.

Well, some of us purchased plugins to save gas. Then there are those of us who bought our way into the HOV lanes with them. (Allocation for plug-in hybrids just increased in California.)

Petroleum is fungible though. Even if you buy American, simply buying it increases the demand for Middle Eastern crude. That gallon of American you bought is a gallon of American that can't displace crude on the global market.

true, but electricity comes from many fossil sources as well, although, it doesn't have to.
