What the hell, maintenance required at 5000 miles on the on the car...

Is this normal for the first 5000 miles and oil change is already requested?

When the Gen3 was first released in early 2009, the oil change interval was still just 5000 miles, so that is what the reminder was programmed for.

Later that year (or early the next year, my memory is fading), the oil interval was retroactively increased to 10,000 miles. But other items on the 5k service list were not changed, so they never bothered changing the programming of the dashboard service reminder.

Oil change on this car should be at least 15000 miles interval. The motor is hardly working hard and at times not running at signal or sitting in traffic...lol

but thanks everyone for the quick reply.

In 15000 miles I'd have done at least 3 oil changes, on the Canadian schedule. It's 6 months or 8000 kms, whichever comes first.

They make that extended Mobil 1 that goes 15k. On sale at Amazon for $26/5qt with $12 rebate. I personally would buy this oil and go 10k. But that's just me

I have life time oil change that came with car so having to get an oil change is not a problem. I was just surprised how frequent I have to take it to the dealer for maintenance. I think it's a waste of time and oil to do it that often.

I have done oil changes to all my cars at 10k or 12k interval. My 93 camry had 390k and my 2001 Chev Suburban had 210k.

i never took it. just 5 and 15k for the free oil change. i took it to the local mech for the 25k, he uses mobil 1 and doesn't overfill. and you can chat with him while he's working and ask him questions, but that costs extra.

A the dealer here in Long Beach ca. I'm weary about it too. I call them 2 times to verify the deal and they say it's all free of charge oil change and 5000 maintenance. With no upselling. We will see it to good to be true.

Since I can't be sure what the Toyota techs put into my car, I would assume the oil is not synthetic and only go 5000 miles between changes. Drain at 5000, and fill with new oil......skip the filter change.

I have always used Mobil 1 synthetic in all of my vehicles.

I am following the Canadian service schedule of 5k mile oil changes, there has to be a reason Canadian cars are being done sooner than what is be recommended for US cars.

If it's free oil changes and you live in CA, they may be just putting 5W-20 which is semi-synthetic (or synthetic blend). It'll run at 5W-20 but you'll have to change it more often (5k miles). Synthetics allow you to stretch the oil change interval to 10,000 miles (0W-20, for example, is what's recommended up here due to colder temperatures).

I wondered why this is the case as well, it's not like they recommend a different oil.
