    So, most of us with the Package III got Yokos. Are these going to be better tires than the OEM's they used to put on the earlier Prius?
    Or not?

    My daughter just bought a 2010 Prius in Canada, Basic model. She is getting the car in 2 days. She had a 1992 Camry and has 4 basically new Nokian tires on 14" rims left over. I am wondering if anyone knows if that could be used on the new Prius. I realize the rims should normally be 15". However, the Elantra Club Tire Size Calculator shows that replacing 195/65/15 tires with 195/70/14 tires only has a -0.23 inches overall diameter difference and an odometer error of less than 1% and it's only for the 3 months we use winter tires here. The question is, will the 14" rim fit for clearance of the calipers on the Prius regenerating brakes and will the bolt pattern be the same? Anyone knows? Thanks!

    I'd also worry about weight issues. Can the 14" rim and tyre support the weight of the Prius. The 01-03 Prius had 14" rims but they had XL tyres to compensate so if I had to guess, I'd say 14" won't work (And yes you've got the brake caliper issue)

    Tideland, Sorry for the confusion. I had on order a Prius IV with solar, but today we bought a V with navigation. I sold our 2005 to my brother last week. Hope that makes some sense.

    Totally newbie at Prius... I am wondering if I can put winter tires on regular rims, without pressure sensors, on the Prius III? Of course there will be no pressure indicator anymore during the winter season, but will the Prius still work fine for everything else or does the software prevents one from driving when there are no sensors detected in the wheels? Thanks!

    Yup, you can mount winters on steelies without a tyre pressure sensor. Like you said, the Low Tire Pressure light will just stay illuminated all winter. No harm in doing that.

    This is a departure from the ones I've seen so far. In Singapore, I have just taken delivery of the Gen 3 with 5 sets of Goodyear Excellence 195/65-R15-91H tyres. Yes, the spare is a full sized alloy wheel. Now there is hardly any useful space below the boot floor unlike the Gen 2. Treadwear is 240 which does not sound good. GY does claim a very quiet tire here, but it seems a bit noisy to me - maybe its because everything else is so quiet. It does say "Made in Japan" however.
