@Raytheeagle is in California and should know. Some of that varies by state,

Smog should be taken care of, especially since it is from a dealer ;).

Not sure what “official fees” are, but you can ask them:whistle:.

If you are inclined to show others your purchase, respond to the meet up thread and we can take a look :).

Good luck with the purchase (y)

FYI : I decided to ahead with Pat's Garage (in SF) for the pre-purchase inspection.
San Francisco Auto Repair | Pat's Garage

They were very prompt in booking, seem to be specializing in hybrids and also gave me a $25 discount (cost=$150)

@Mayank Jain , See my signature, I bought that car from a private party off Craigslist. (in fact I have purchased 80% my cars from private party, have been successful except one case). In Prius plugin, only the part I was able to properly get inspected was the non electric part. For electric part, I have only tested it by charging it and running on electric for a test drive. Since mine was a Lease Return to the Dealer and low miles, I took a chance and it worked well.
Check if the seller(or dealer) have already got the HOV green sticker. If it was not so far, you will be lucky since for those new applicants of HOV stickers in 2017 and 2018, Government is going to allow them to apply for 4 more years starting from 2019 onwards. I am one such lucky person for HOV.

One option is to check out the battery with Techstream ;).

For those that attend the meetup Saturday, I’ll have it available(y).

I have a lease return coming up, 2015 pip with less than 36k miles when May comes around. Dealer wants $18k+ for the pay off, so they're keeping it

My lease return was off dealer auction, turn out to be cheaper deal.
In general, Lease returns are well maintained by the dealers

I anticipated the residual value would be off when I leased the car. I think the 2015 would sell for around $16000 now

For $16K, it sounds like a good deal.

My base cost in Dec. 2016 was $12,995 for a 2013 with 54,400 miles, but you're in CA and everything costs more there. My guess is that that's a fair price.

I'm sure the dealer will make sure all fees and documents are taken care of before you drive away. I hope you get great smileage from whichever car you pick.

Have you opened a dialog with them? Perhaps they have more room to move.

Haven't done anything yet, the $18k was a predetermined payoff amount when I signed the lease.

This is strictly a California carpool vehicle, otherwise I would be happy with just a regular Prius

That’s my next car quandary: go for a Prime Plus or a Prius One .

Or wait for a Model 3:).

If you want to keep it, I would think they would want to make it happen rather than get the car back.

I haven't really research the option of them negotiating a reduced residual cost. I guess anything is possible

I just pulled the trigger on the Prius Plugin 2012, 100k, advanced model for $12,700 out of door price.

    Process
    1. Negotiated the price before walking into the dealer
    2. Did the visual inspection of the car 2 days ago. Asked the dealer to charge it overnight for a test drive the next day
    3. Made dealer agree to mechanic's inspection. Next day, took it to Pat's Garage in SF for a pre purchase inspection. They specialize in hybrids ($150). They gave a green light on all fronts.
    4. EV battery gave an mileage of 10'ish miles with careful driving
    5. Went to dealer, paid & took home the Plugin :)

Thank you everyone forward all the help and suggestions.

Congrats Mayank, Welcome to the proud owners of PiP.
Did you check the pointers that I have referred about your GREEN HOV sticker?

    Thanks @SlidingBike
The car has a green HOV sticker - though I haven't checked its validity yet. Will do so :)
