What to do with spare engine?!

    Hey everyone, I've got a 2010 prius engine with a blown head gasket, high oil consumption, and around 190k miles.

    What do I do with it? My dad wants to throw it in his dumpster. Any ideas as what to do?! It seems sad just chucking it!

    If nothing else, it would probably have considerable scrap value. Or maybe an automotive repair school could use it.

    Clean it and keep it? I'm not clear, does Aaron still have a Prius? I seem to recall he was getting rid of it (them).

    Hopefully you have a local scrap depot (for the parts you don't want to keep). Here there's "Happy Stan", takes any kind of scrap metal, wire, old lawn mowers, what have you.

    I don't have a prius anymore :( I went to the dark side (Ford c-max) but we still have two Prii in the family

    Yes, I actually have it in a cardboard box with a few other parts. It looks totally fine, but I didnt wire it up or anything thing to test it in any way. (I'm definitely not an electrician lol)

    How freely did the impeller spin? Did it bind or “hang up” as you turn it by hand?

    I noticed in the 2 I have looked at (one with 140 k miles then ours with 176 k miles) as it spun it would not spin freely and would occasionally bind up. This is compared to a new water pump and side by side prior to new pump install.

    Oh dang, that's interesting. Now I'm really anxious to get back and test it out. I honestly don't even remember exactly how mine acted. I feel forgetful :(
