    To add to what keydiver said. Pain and suffering was never a part of God's original plan or design. From what I have read from the Bible it is clear that when sin enter the world and Satan was able to prowl around, pain and suffering became a part of life. God can take that pain and suffering and turn it to good, but it was not from him in the first place.

    With the free will for us to make the right choices, we can also make the wrong choices and lead to pain and suffering to ourselves or for others.
