In any product mix graded by the customers (the ones with the gold), there is going to be an optimum performance point and "40mpg" appears to be an optimum. We're Prius and plugin people so 55-130 MPG is what makes us happy. But we are not the average car owner/driver.

Look back in history to 2001-03 and the Gen-1 Prius. Today, the EPA today lists them as 41 MPG (then 48 MPG) yet Toyota only sold ~55,000 in the USA. Due to some poor configuration choices, we went with an Echo in 2001, then listed at 35 MPG, instead of the local 2001 Prius. Back then, you were expected to be a "green", leaf-looker, bambi-lover, to buy a Prius. That was 14-17 years ago which slightly longer than your "10-15 years"

Prius 4gen is much closer, that is why I listed the dimensions... ;)

Yeah, 40 mpg in city is the minimum requirement for our car. I also need larger cargo and better ground clearance. Thought about used V, but I don't think it has any better ground clearance than regular Gen3. Does it?

Very negligible increase in clearance for a v. Gen 3 Prius has 5.3" ground clearance vs Prius v 5.7"

Thanks. 5.7" is better than PRIME's 4.8", but still not high enough to drive it on rough dirt roads.

I drove my Chevy Volt through monument valley with its 3.5” of ground clearance .
Supposedly only 4wd could enter yet they didn’t tell you that until you were a third of the way along.

Just had to take care where I put the tires so I didn’t center the cars midsection on a large bolder

Wow, Volt has only 3.5" ground clearance? That's as low as some of super-fast sports cars. 10 Production Cars With the Least Amount of Ground Clearance - Bridjit Curb Ramps

I will never drive my PRIME on any unpaved road. Where I live, even paved roads can be very bumpy from frost heaving and potholes. I have hit the bottom of PRIME many times already.

The 3.5" of ground clearance is because of that (plastic? silicon? rubber?) front air dam right under the bumper that GM put on several cars and SUVs in the 2000s/2010s. The "true" ground clearance is 4.7" or basically the same as our Prime.

My 3⅜“ wide yoyo + adding the 1¼" of actual tape sticking out ... shows that's pretty close .... & some of the plastic underbelly is at least an inch hicher.

yep ... but don't ask me how I know, because @bisco will seriously condemn me for trying/buying every plug-in under the sun, in order to determine what's truly the best of the best. My shame threshold couldn't take it.
Okay, I admit it, my name is hill, & I am a Prius whore. i went from this ...

To that ... I'm so ashamed.

I hope the group can forgive me.

Come on! I was stuck with a pathetically diminished leaf! Desperate times call for desperate measures !! Can't I get a little forgiveness? The Steeler-ship gave me $1, 950 for the pathetic Leaf ... in trade for the 2018 volt .... come-on! Okay, I understand if you guys won't ever talk to me again.
