What's the best Michelin tire for 17" wheels on Prius? The Energy Saver AS tires are not available in 215/45/17 size it doesn't look like.

They (215/45/17 Primacy MXM4) can be difficult to find. My local chain (Dunn Tire) ended up getting them from Tire Rack!

I like them a lot. I've only had them since late November and have found that they do well in the bad winters that we have here. I really liked the OEM tires on the car (Bridgestone Tourenza), but those apparently are not available (in this size). The Tire Rack (as well as Consumer Reports) ratings were the highest for this tire - so I went with them. No comments yet about fuel economy because of the cold weather.

I have them also, same size and love them. I can't speak for winter mpg but I saw about 48 at the pump on a 200 mile commute, mixed high-speed back roads, and highway during warmer months. A couple months ago I moved and do about 43-45 mpg at the pump in Phoenix where the traffic rolls 50 a 1/4 mile at a time.

I did research on the same subject and everything i found said primacy mxm4. My local tire shop had them for almost 1000 installed so i looked around and wound up buying from a guy on ebay brand new for 525 then another 200 for alignment install and tpms since i had new rims too.

I've got the 17". The best "Michelin" for me, if I was buying today, would be Bridgestone Ecopia EP422.

Not sure if you can get these in the US, but the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance rate very highly in terms of both LRR and grip here in Europe.

Pirelli also do a LRR tyre in that size

Yes, they do. I have them in 215/45/17. They're more fuel efficient than the Michelin Primacy but supposedly don't handle as well or look as cool as they have smaller rim protector.

The Bridgestone Ecopia EP 422 do come in 215/45/17's, according to Tire Rack's site.

Like I found when I purchased my 215/45/17 MXM4's there is a difference between dealers having tires in stock and Tire Rack availability. Often the tire dealers will only check their other stores (if a chain) and the manufacturer. If the manufacturer does not have any in their warehouse AT THE MOMENT, they will tell you that they are "not available". Good tire dealers will go to other dealers (mine got the MXM4's from Tire Rack) to keep you as a regular customer (big Thumbs Up for Dunn Tire in the Buffalo, NY area).

Costco usually has EP422 in 215/45R17.

(also 205/50R17, closer to 195/65R15 OD, but they may balk at installing them)

I had the Primacy 87V set for 5000 miles now and I love them. I will rotate them soon, but there seem almost no wear :)
In terms of price, there was/is an Ebay seller occationally has a set on sale for $508 shipped. I also took advantage of Michelin $70 mail-in rebate. Local installation was $50 for me. So I ended up paid $488 total. Good deal I thought :)
