I hate to admit this...... I had to move the Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) the other day after the storm in order to move another vehicle. Somehow I walked away from the Prius and left it running. I left it running that day and overnight until this am!! I went through about 5.5 gals of gas, nice and warm inside while we had WC about 13 below. Do you think I did any harm??
In the confusion of this Boston weather, a painful back and rushing to get back in is how I did it.

    Car should be fine.

Besides being short half a tank of gas….

Was your heater on? What was it set to? If you had it set to full blast and outside was -13, then obviously the ICE had to run a lot more to keep the car warm, but even set to full blast car would get up to temp and shut off for a bit…. then repeat the same process over and over. So in effect it never ran that whole time..

Think of all the Cop cars that run non stop for 12 hr shifts, over and over and over… and they get driven hard, followed by long idle times.

I've run my Prius c on purpose for 54 hours straight, powering critical systems in my house after Hurricane Sandy. As others have said, no problems doing this except for using a little gas.

Well don't feel like a schmuck, I bet it happens more than people will let know. We have intentionally done that overnight when driving a long distance and sleeping in it overnight. You only used about $10 in gas and came out to a warm car, that's it, on to the next page.
On the more cheerful side, when I was putting gas in our Prius, I jokingly said to my wife that I put diesel in by mistake. She said "Haha, it doesn't fit, I already tried that!"
    So there cheer up!

He who hasn't done that speak up.

Weird feeling to come out of work in the afternoon and find your car running. (Car lasted at least 80k more miles before our family traded that car.) Or to sit down at a big meeting in front of a window that looked out to a parking lot and suddenly a car behind you starts blaring it's emergency horn ... then you look around and realize it is yours and you just sat on the key fob.

Speaking up, luckily, you didn't run out of petrol.

Thinking about all the prii that serve as generators when the power goes out, moot

I doubt if any harm was done. When I bought a new Prius Two in 2011 the salesman told me one of his customers failed to turn his Prius off when he put it in his garage and it ran for 2 days. No apparent damage to that person's car. I have come to the conclusion that as long as we are alive we are going to sometimes screw up so don't feel bad about it. I have done worse than that many times.

How did you do that? Sounds interesting.

    Power your house, that is.

    back next sunday, ugh.

you can hook a small inverter to the 12 volt, or a large one to the hybrid battery. there are a multitude of threads here and a commercially available system as well.

I bet Toyota tested the car exactly as you describe to be sure the hybrid synergy drive system can handle long idle times.
