what's the difference between 2016 prius and 2016 prius eco?

There's a post on here, somewhere, that describes the difference. Somebody will post the link for you.
Here's a few things:

The "Two Eco" model has no spare compact tire. (to save weight)
It has no rear window wiper. (to save weight)
The 15" tires on the Eco (Dunlop?) are not really any different than other models with 15" tires... the Eco tires are just inflated a little higher.

My Three model can get just as good gas mileage (or better) as the Two Eco. And I have a spare tire. And a rear window wiper. And I drive in the Power mode.

 

Wayne Gerdes over at CleanMPG drove both Eco and a regular, with a significantly better mpg with the Eco. He's pretty rigorous in his test regimen. Maybe the programming varies?

 

The battery is lithium instead of nickel hydride; smaller size and lighter.

We have had our 2016 Two Eco for a bit over a month. Took a trip to Canada with two kayaks (around Vancouver Island from Seattle), still on the second tank of gas (first was fill up from dealer).

We are getting at least EPA numbers. Have not filled up enough to calculate actual MPG, but compared to our beloved old 2004 Gen 2, it is waay better. Toyota has continued to improve these cars.

 

I don't know! Shaving a few lbs not going to bump up mpg that much! My guess would be in the electronics! Remapping the vvt( variable valve timing) CVT ( continuous variable transmission) more electric assist in the hybrid system.so a simple software change = $$$ that more money!

 

Every level but 2 has the lithium battery, not unique to Eco.

 

As mentioned, no spare, no sun roof, no bells and whistles, but the tires have super stiff sidewall and it's my understanding wear out in 10,000, a 10% boost in mpg's from the other prii is rather a nice thing, I went for a model 4, I want al the bells and whistles, averaging 67 mpg overall

 

there is already a huge thread here, with no firm conclusions, just repetitive guessing, and listing the few differences.

 

Wow I didn't know that tire are rated to wear out in 10 k miles , then I don't see the point in eco? If it's going to cost a additional 500.00 every year or10,000 miles ! So if you put on 200,000 miles in life of the car that will = a additional 10,000.00 to cost of ownership!

Oh, the point is another 10% in mpgs, after the first set of tires dies, just get Michelin lrr and enjoy.

 

I have the ECO. Additionally to what is said in this thread is the model has Infared Cutting windshield to make the car cooler and need less AC. My son has a new car with lighter colored interior. He was amazed how cool my car was when parked in the sun with black interior. The high speed drag is reduced without a rear wiper too.i have not been able to find any facts on tuning differences. My wife is the primary driver on many short trips. I love this car.

 

I forgot to mention the tires came with the same Toyo tires on all the models at the dealer with 15" wheels. I walked around and checked when I was deciding what model to buy.

 

Are you saying at your dealership the Eco came with the same tires as other (15" tire) levels? I think so, just confused.

 

I have Two Eco and all my car had the Wipers , big Tires , Tint . This Time I am staying cleaning to all that. If my tires last only 10,000 Miles . Toyota will have a big problem in their hand. I drive 90 miles a day. Will find out pretty soon. As of now my MPG is way better than my Gen 3 . I do almost 73 MPG every night. That is correct. I could not find one with Dunlop tires. Although I have seen them on the streets.

 

Darker color absorbs heat vs brighter reflects , I took my headliner down installed aluminum heat shielding insulation, tinted windows and dash mat this all adds up to cooler cabin. So the A\C doesn't work as hard which return a little more mpg!

 

We don't understand why 2 ECO gets 4 MPG better EPA rating, and Toyota ain't saying exactly why either. Some of that 4 MPG may be "on-paper" related to weight class rules in the EPA methodology.

If Wayne Gerdes measured it, that's good but the question would be why is Prius 2 ECO (w/ lithium batt) 56 vs. Prius 3 also with lithium batt 52. I don't think we have the full understanding as yet.

The other thing seems true is the 3 Touring and 4 Touring will probably be lower due to the 17-inch wheels always a bit less MPG, good looking, but the EPA regs allow assigning the same MPG.

 

I got my Gen 4 this yr My Ex told me Since you got ur Prius that was the turning point. Prius sure got I lot hated out there . I decided to get a man . I told her good luck with that.

I have my A/C Lo all the time. It Super Cold all the time. I never open the window. Don't know about the tint toyota has something in them already. The tint are about 150.00 or 179.00 where are the saving then. I keep the Fan in one dash it 90 degree here in Miami .
