well i'm pretty sure i've gotten my point across to many people... of course being pretty much the only person here who has a direct ask-a-mechanic in my own home, if you need advice from over here you're stuck reading all lower case.

the words do not contain less information simply because of their lack of capitalization, and to be honest i am quite sure i started typing in all lower case while trying to very very quickly transcribe what the husband was saying in response to technical questions. it stuck.

You're posts are always well written and easy to understand, capitalized or not.

There are times when misspellings, poor grammar and overuse of 'net "shorthand" will drive leave me shaking my head. But I'm more interested in the actual content of what's written. I'd rather see a well-reasoned post that fails every rule in Elements of Style than one that's letter-perfect but contains circular logic or doesn't say anything.

Isn't anyone going to quote the Panda joke here?

    Here it is:

A Panda goes into a bar. He buys a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires.

"Why?" asks the barman as the Panda goes out the door.

The Panda gives him a badly punctuated book about animals.
"I'm a Panda," he says. "look it up."

The barman turns to the entry for Panda:

"PANDA: Large mammal native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

You are still the Princess of PC to me even though you don't use caps. We know that your posts are thoughtful and well founded.

We all know when we see an impressive post. They are not always done perfectly, but they are seldom done poorly.

Those who are sloppy in their posts hurt themselves more than anyone else. To them, I say be clear if you want to be understood. Being defensive about your writing style will not increase the number of people who get your message.

No one is going to take away your right to be sloppy if that is your choice.

thanks Allannde (see, i hit the shift key just for you :p)

i think i'll continue the current style of writing until the urge strikes me to do something different. i know everyone can understand me and that works.

Lets take a poll, If you think new grammar is bad say I do, if you dont say I dont, then say your age. I will be bet everyone who has an issue i over 30 years old, probably the age group who this vehicle attracts to.

You will not be surprised to learn that I am 30 times 2 plus 12 years of age. You youngsters sometimes forget that your seniors (in years) were once young, too. When I was a teenager, my parents were quite sure that the world was nearly at an end because of the way my friends and I talked.

When you post, there are many people literally all over the world who will read it. Do you want most PCers to understand your post or just people who know, as you say, "new grammer"?

    It"s your choice.

I keep telling myself, "Don't look in FHOP! You will only get angry and frustrated." And then I read a silly thread like this. At least I know my 2007 New Year's resolution now.

Grammer and spelling have been on the decline since the 1960s. I remember in elementary school, we had spelling tests daily and had to pass them or we couldn't go to lunch. We had to spell correctly, otherwise, you would not eat. Since the NEA and its comrades have taken over the government schools,(public education), grammer, spelling, and knowledge of history have been swept under the table.

....and even participated, making fun of but not really adding to it.

As Virgil said, "Da facilem cursum, atque audacibus annue cœptis."
("Give me an easy course, and favor my daring undertakings.")

Perhaps my endeavor wasn't very "audax" but is seeking clarity in dialogue silly?

    If you say so....

Seeking clarity in dialogue is a noble endeavour, even, dare I say it, rather audax of you.
