Wheel Nuts Overly Tight or Seized?

    Yeah, but now you have to tell them what to set it to. The last time I got new tires, I went out and asked the "mechanic" what the torque wrench was set to, and he said "130 Nm, it's the same for all cars". That's 26% higher than the 103 Nm listed in my owner's manual.

    The roads here are heavily salted, so I use pure silicone oil spray, which is much too thin to significantly affect the friction of the threads, but provides some corrosion protection.

    I do the same thing! Ever since I happened to glance down and notice one of the wheel-nuts hanging on by a couple of threads just after I picked the car up after having had it serviced. That happened about twenty years ago, and so I got into the habit of checking (just in case! :eek:)
