I purchased mine last November. I had been riding my motorcycle all year for the past 5 years. The funny thing is both my cars get better fuel mileage than my motorcycle.

WE THINK PKG 5, AS I SAID WE ARE REALLLLLLLY NEW TO THIS BUT ARE VERY EXCITED. NOT REALLY TRYING TO SAVE THE WORLD WITH THIS VECHICLE (NO INSULT INTENDED) JUST WANTED TO GET SOMETHING THAT WAS MORE ECONOMIC AND SOMETHING WITH SOME "TOYS". I REALLY LIKE GADGETS. I THINK...THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PKG 5-6 IS JUST LEATHER...BUT I HAVE SEEN ON SOME SITES THERE ARE AUTOMATIC CAR STARTS...DVD IN THE HEADRESTS...SOMETHING ABOUT SECURITY UPGRADES..WHERE DO YOU FIND INFO ON THAT...I LOOKED ON THE TOYOTA SITE....AND THESE POSTS UNTILL I AM GOING BLIND...THERE IS A LOT OF INFO OUT HERE...HARD FOR A NEWBIE TO GET IT ALL IN...

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE INTEREST AND ADVISE..

We purchased ours early July 2006 and it was delivered July 27th, 2006. We love it. We are considering an 07 as our second vehicle. :D

Ordered ('04 model year) August '03, picked up late December '03. Ordered when 'old' car was acting up. It died before prius delivery and I had to buy a junker to close the gap. Wait times sure have tightened up since then!

    John,

You might want to start a new thread with these questions, as it's a little off topic for this thread and likely to get lost/unanswered. My 2 cents: haven't heard of automatic car starts/dvds in the headrest as any standard option on the Prius. The only security upgrades I know of are all on the toyota site: ie., the alarm (package 2 or 3 I think), and the separate options of glass breakage sensor or wheel locks (both described on the toyota site, I think under accessories).

Security-wise the car has the advantage of its electronic key, making it a non-target for hotwiring. As most cars are stolen for parts, the Prius has the advantage of a still small sales base (600k or so) and intimidating technology, making it a much less likely parts target than standard cars. Our Prius is parked in an alley where graffiti by the Latin Kings gang is regularly sprayed and we have had no problems as yet.

ON-TOPIC: mid November 2006, one month before prices fell and inventory soared in December. :(

Bought my package #3 in June 2006. I still love it although I wish back then they had the touring edition with the bigger wheels. Although I got a reasonably good price, one seems to be able to get more with the 07's for the same price are just a little more (however, one doesn't get the full tax break).

Had I known about this forum before and done some reading, I might have also gone for a higher option package, with the navigation system and 6-CD changer. Although there seems to be some mixed reviews on the nav -- it seems that after-market systems work better but one doesn't get the big built-in display and there's the problem about where to mount it.

My purchase date is in my signature. :)

I had been eyeing the Prius since the '04 first came out, but didn't have the financial means at that time to buy one. In summer '05, I was approached with a great career opportunity for a decent increase in salary - but the opportunity was on the other side of Toronto (~40 miles each way). Aside from the time wasted commuting, I decided it was a good move for my career and now I had a legitimate reason to buy the car! B)

Already saved myself over $900 in gas in only 10 months (exactly 10 months tomorrow, actually)... compared to my previous 5-speed 4-cylinder Honda, which was no slouch in itself @ 29MPG lifetime average!

I purchased my first Prius Nov. 03, and it was an 04. Just last month I traded in my 04 for a 07 loaded.

I bought my '02 in Nov of '01, but had ordered it online weeks before that. Can't remember the length of the wait on that one though.

I bought my '04 in Oct of '03, but had ordered it in early July of '03 as part of the Pioneer buyer program.

Next one will probably be the '09 if mine is ready for replacement...

Neat, did you get the Touring or the regular Prius?
You should update your profile to reflect your new car. :)

Yep... considering the amount of driving I do, that was part of my budgeting. B)

And to think, since September, gas prices in Toront have been "down", averaging ~$0.82/L. Now that the prices are back around $1/L with the gas shortage going on, my savings will be even higher...

At least with a fuel-sipping car like this, there is that silver lining to look at in the face of high gas prices! ;)

I had a 96 Acura Integra 5-speed before the Prius. A great car that was... I decided to trade her, as the maintenance bills after 300K kms were starting to add up...... but she was very trustworthy over the years and never stranded me once. :)

I do miss the sporty manual transmission sometimes, though. :(

We bought our first Prius July 3rd 2005. A Salsa red package 4 with aftermarket leather seats. We purchased our second Prius August 2006 package 8 flint mica green. They look so nice sitting in the driveway side by side. At Christmas, they look very festive almost as if it were a conscience effort to decorate the driveway with Red and Green.
