Heh. I went to Philadelphia for the 1st time in late 2010. I didn't go to either. IIRC, they're in South Philadelphia which I understand isn't a great area. I don't think the public transportation options to get there were very good either.

Heh, yeah, I mostly think of Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Rocky (even though I've never seen the movie) and cheesesteak. I did go to the outside of the museum and the steps from that famous scene...

 

Read this earlier today. Pretty much sums up the urban blight of a lot of big cities. Richmond experienced its own white flight into the suburbs years ago. Richmond city public schools are horrible as well. Some of the areas such as church hill and shockoe bottom are slowly being gentrified by young people but once enough of them get murdered on their way to work that will stop.

Aside from my earlier smart arsed remarks about WC Fields tombstone that supposedly reads "I would rather be in Philadelphia", Philadelphia is one of many interesting places I haven't been to.

My travel motto is "If you wanted everything to be like it is at home, you should have stayed home".
