Where is the Factory GPS antenna located?

I am researching how to install a Sirius radio into a 2006 Prius. Since there is confirmed problems with using the Toyota Sirius receiver (from the Solara...) with the 2006 (works great with the 2004 and 2005 Prius) I am looking at the Sirius Starmate Replay (and identical, but black, Streamer GTR).

There is a "GTR Professional Vehicle Kit SIR-GTRV1" that includes a single DIN installation plate, Wired FM Modulator Relay, and a power cable.

With this kit, one should be able to have an indash and very neat iand easy nstallation. The FM Modulator Relay cable would allow control of the antenna. It is powered from the Sirius Receiver and uses the built in FM in the receiver.

The receiver would fit in the CD storage area behind the smoke door below the audio system. The door would "hide" the receiver and even cut the brightness of the blue display of the Sirius Receiver. I would control the receiver with the Remote control.

The question remaining is where to put the antenna to keep it out of sight. Suggestions I have received include on the windshield behind mirror using the Sigma antenna (used by Nissan and Lexus), ON the dashboard, in the spoiler, and of course on the roof.

Any experience reports?

In the forums here at PriusChat one poster reported that a BestBuy technician reported installing it under the dashboard next to the GPS antenna.

1) Has anyone installed an XM or Sirius antenna under the dash? How did it work? How was it attached?

2) Our Prius does not have the Navigation System. Where is the antenna under the dash and how do you get to it?

I was looking at the Prius Dash and noted the small dome and punchout on the driver's side of the dash.


What are they for?

This seems to be a good location for routing a Satelite Antenna if it Dash Mounted.
