I've got a Prius anniversary model Japanese language. I want to know where the haddisk is located? I'm curious to see what it has by connecting to my desktop/laptop.

    Thanks.

As far as I know it's a part of head unit.

If you have nav, the drive is under the drivers seat, it would be a hard-disk.

So I'll have to remove the NAV unit and open that to access the harddisk?

In my case the NAV unit is under the passengers seat.

If your Prius is a 2007 "gen2" it does not have a hard disc. The satnav works from a DVD player under the passengers seat.

I'll upload a photo of the NAV system during the weekend, also it has no DVD slot. It has something like a USB port.

I don't know about a general harddisk, because I've seen models without harddisks. The songs are recorded to a harddisk in my car (there is a button to record on the MFD), I'm trying to find out where the actual harddisk is..

According to the Toyota part number shown in your picture (86841- 47071)of the navigation unit. That is the standard DVD navigation player.
Further the socket shown is not a USB port. A standard USB port has 5 pins.

    Hi john,

Thanks for the infor, but then how do we update the Navigation, as you can see there is no DVD slot.
Anyway reverting back to my original question, is the harddisk inside this unit?

Also John, a standard USB port has 4 pins, 2 for data and 2 for power.

I have not got the manual for the navigation unit at hand at the moment, "I am away from home" but from memory there is a sliding lid on the other side of the unit to the connectors with an eject button, and DVD slot under the lid.
When I return home I will check for more accurate details. The DVD contains all the map, and voice information with different DVD's for different counties.

There is a record button in the menu for checking the volume of voice commands received by the voice recognition system. You can alter the volume of the received command through the microphone.

you can see the "REC" button in 1.jpg. Once you see the song list on the CD you can see what songs are recorded to the harddisk (2.jpg - you can see a small yellow icon with 'HDD' top left of the song name). In 3.jpg you can see the songs in the harddisk.

So, where is the harddisk physically located now?

You are correct on the number of wires used, but on the flat USB plugs, and sockets there are 5 pins one of witch is not used. This does not apply to the "D" shaped plugs where there are 4 pins.

    John
As "Bisco" suggest this must be a Japanese domestic market version only as all known gen2 Prius as far as I know in Europe, and the US do not have a hard disc fitted up to 2009. The gen3 Prius from 2009 in Europe, and 2010 in the US does have a hard disc. You list your Prius as a 2007 version.
