Converted to a poll - let me know if I missed any choices... I'm on HSI so often I may have forgotten something!

The problem with the poll is that, for example, HSI is a display mode, but Trip A vs. Trip B is a trip mode.

In other words, I almost always look at HSI--in Trip A. I could also see HSI in Trip B, or in no trip.

There is a Best Trip which shows the MPG of the last 5 or so trips, along w/ all-time best MPG. This is indeed a display mode. When Trip A/B are toggled, the best trip for the Trip A or Trip B counters are displayed. If display is held, it resets the graphs (but does not clear out all-time high MPG).

Sorry. I must not ever have paid any attention to that display mode before. I'll take a look next time I'm in the driver's seat.

I get the best mileage when I am on the phone and not paying attention to conserving fuel. Of course, I pay attention to driving and avoiding accidents. I am not kidding. Seems like if I don't pay attention, I get better mileage so I hardly look at the guages now.

As for speed, always let 5% of the people on the road go faster than you. They will get the tickets. Works all the time for me.

Okay, I found all those modes. I never knew exactly how to read the Trip A and Trip B past record, but it's there as you describe it.

I wish there were an overall average MPG reading. I'm using Trip B for that. (I.e., in 4,000+ miles I've never reset Trip B.) All-time high mileage doesn't seem all that useful (to me).

All Gen3 Prii worldwide have the HSI screen.
The 38.9 km/L (91.5 mpg) result is caused by a good example of P&G. :)

The ranges are Ken's addition for pulse vs. glide suggested range. The economy is all him.

At the beginning I was using a lot the 1min fuel consumption, together a lot with the Energy Monitor (EM) to see what was going on.

The problem with the EM is that it is not showing the average fuel consumption, which is what "most important" on the Prius for me...
So now I tend to use the HSI to see the average fuel consumption, and also sometimes to better see the HSI bar, since on the HUD (Heads Up Display) sometimes it is too small to understand whether you are just past the non-eco zone or already a good bit in PWR.

Honestly speaking, with HUD, I would keep the whole display off, if the average fuel consumption would be available in the left screen already.
Trip A is for the tank. Trip B is for the current trip. Though I am getting less and less interested in Trip B.

Also I agree with one post above: the best consumption is when I am not looking at the screens and HSI on the HUD, but rather simply driving - it appears that driving the Polo Diesel has already trained me well enough to drive the Prius. P&G did also work with the Polo, since giving just a hint of gas would keep the momentum and achieve the lowest fuel consumptions.

It's a pity the instantaneous fuel consumption is not a number and rather a somewhat unreadable bar. But after all one should pay attention to the road, shouldn't it?

The "all time" best can be reset in the settings menu, if I remember correctly. There is in any case a procedure to reset it.

    HSI almost all the time.

Also use 1 min histogram screen on the freeway, on cruise control, as a way to see the impact of speed, driving with the traffic flow, following another vehicle, etc.

I use the 5 min consumption because there's already a HSI on my HUD.
