I stopped working in April 1972 when I arrived at "B" Company, 3d Force Service Regiment. Since then I ceased worrying about what others wanted me to do. Sure there were a few 'dead ends' but I knew as long as I had the freedom (and used it!) to quit, I was working for myself.

    ... a faux pas post

Might as well bring it back on point. Regarding unions, I read a great article on the Toyota GM NUMI plant which turned out to be a disaster for both parties.
GM union workers resented being told how to make small cars, and acted maliciously to bring the new joint venture down.
One example I recall from the article was when a ongoing defect was noticed. The GM union workers would take the messed up cars offline & get lots of overtime doing the individual repairs. The Japanese way was to fix the assembly line so it wouldn't happen anymore.
But the pendulum swings both ways. When abusive management does bad things, that over-reaching of power results in unions.

agree on unions, can't live with them, can't live without. one of those human foibles that prevents us from getting our act together.
