Which one?!

    I used to drive ‘07 Prius four touring. Sold it at 175k and got a van. Sad times. I want to sell it and get a Prius. I am looking at:
    2015 Prius 5 trim w/tech package18k mi
    2016 two eco new
    2017 two eco new
    2016 used four trim

    What would you do?! I love the idea of the gamefication of eco driving on the new model. I am aiming to spend under $20k, ideally.

    Two Eco has no spare tire and no rear wiper. Do you use either frequently?
    Four has no spare tire either.

    i think there are some improvements on the 2017. are they all under 20k?

    Gen 4 was a dramatic improvement on Gen 3. I was a non-PRIUS owner before I got my Gen 4. I tested some superseded Gen 3s - then the Gen 4. No comparison, I wouldn't have bought a Gen 3.

    If you're upgrading from a van - depending on the van - you might find the 2015 gen 3 a significant improvement - if the price is right.

    If you need a 'van' but not van MPG, my Prius v wagon gets 38 MPG fully loaded and holds quite a lot.

    You can still get 2016 two eco NEW? What are the price for each? For a new Prius, if you don't mind 4 seats and smaller cargo, you really should consider 2017 Prime which are still sold with huge incentive in your area. You should be able to get it under $20k after $4500 tax credit easily. Probably, less expensive and more fuel efficient (if using cheaper electricity) than 2017 2 eco model.

    None of the above since I require a spare tire. You need to look at a Gen 4 Two, Three, or Three Touring. For me, the additional cost of the Three over the Two was not worth it. The Eco was not even a consideration.

    Unless you're paying cash, going used may not be your best bet. I just bought my 2018 Two for just under $25k. BUT... 0.9% Toyota financing made it a no-brainer, compared to any used one in reasonable shape.

    If I had cash and could haggle down the used ones a bit, I could've saved that $5k.

    The used ones in my area were either too expensive or had a LOT of miles on them. Like 25k miles per year.

    Plus, and this is just icing on the cake, I've already saved $30 worth of gas just in the couple weeks since I've owned it.

    In my other life, as a motorcyclist, it doesn't make sense to buy new. A Yamaha FJR1300 costs $17k new, but I can easily find really clean, recent model used ones for $7k. Those bikes routinely go over 300,000 miles, too...

    None of the listed Gen 4s have a spare tire unless the driver carries their own. :oops:
