For that price you are closer to getting the top of the line Prius C!

Not quite but close. The Prius C 4 is $23,230. Out the door it will be over $25k. Still very tempting. But it's funny. My niece's grandmother does not want her in a small car since she will be driving her little brothers and sisters around. She didn't want that option to be discussed further. :-(

Don't wanna give Grams any extra worries!

From the sidelines here it looks like the kid needs to take all the advice then make up her own mind.

If a mid-sized car is too small what does Grandma want her to drive? A Hummer?

At some point people have to understand "when you pay for the gas or the car your vote counts."

Buy a top-of-the-line unit with voice recognition and set it on a dash mount. Unplugging it & setting it on the deck does take an extra minute. Most of the time I don't bother. I prefer the Garmin's position tucked in the corner. It's a toss-up between the Garmin & Denso units--each does some things better.

The other weekend I had to drive through shattered BMW glass because some punk broke into the car at the casino's parking garage. Glass Breakage Sensor needs to discharge a canister of some vile gas.

She'll be happy with either Gen. What DOES the family want her to buy?

I know I want her in a Prius because it's a GREAT car. Her parents want her in a safe reliable car, her grandmother doesn't like small compacts, but the Prius liftback will offer enough protection (in her opinion). She is a little overwhelmed with the whole car shopping deal and is just praying for a good car. Me too!

Buying a car is a big decision. Sounds like her criteria should be: safety ratings, maintenance costs, & operating costs. I don't think you'll find anything that will beat a Prius under most driving scenarios. If it is going to be a local commuter I'd toss in a Leaf but the up front cost may be too high. I'd expect her to get about the same numbers out of a Gen2 or Gen3 so it comes down to what she can afford & what she wants.

It doesn't matter if she's Drop Dead Gorgeous or Coyote Ugly nobody wants to be stranded on the side of the road.

I'd go with the newest car with the lowest mileage possible. The missing gizmos can always be added later.
