I'm with all of those but I have to add a few...

Rock, add Dire Straits, Little Feat.

Jazz (including fusion), gotta add Heroshima, and Herbie Hancok (sp?)

Big Band, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, and the Dorsey Brothers.

And I've gotta throw in country/bluegrass: Johny Cash, Loretta Lynn, The Dillards (Darling family from Andy Griffith show), Flat & Skruggs, Monroe Crossing.

And the one I don't know how to classify: Ray Charles

Favorite classical work: Symphony No. 9 by Bethoven

I am in total agreement with you. They are the only band that can consistently make me cry (or get goosebumps) simply because I'm blown away by an intense feeling of something indescribable. Is it Plant's vocals? Page's guitar? Bonham's drums? Jones' bass? No...definitely an example of the total being greater than a sum of the parts.

To this day...unreal stuff. Nothing EVER like it.

But let me add some of my other faves:
    Prince
    Nina Simone
Luciano Pavarotti (his rendition of 'Nessun Dorma' is the best song EVER!)
    Eric Clapton
    Jimmy Buffett
    Janet Jackson
    Billie Holiday
    Ani DiFranco
    The Starland Vocal Band (jk)

    And I love Janis Joplin's vocals. :p

I need to go get my iPod now!

Boys Don't Cry is my favorite Cure album.
I really like Robert Smith's lyrics. I can't think of any other lyricist who can sing actually conversations. I'm thinking of "from the edge of the deep green sea".
