Why a time limit for oil and filters as well as a mileage limit?

Interesting... I did an oil change for a 2001 Honda Insight at start of Summer and we had a miscommunication about who was going to buy the oil filter and had to change oil without a new filter. I've never done that and was uncomfortable about it and am eager to do another oil change ASAP.

I’m not sure what year they started, but Honda maintenance schedules now mandate the oil filter only be changed at every second oil change. With our 06 Civic I did a slight variation on that, emptying and reinstalling the current filter. Just the once.

FWIW local dealership treated you like a nut case if you asked them to follow that guideline.
