We got rid of the Canadians?!? WoooHooo! About damn time. The Canucks have been leaching off of our northern border for way too long.

Oh wait a minute. I misread the title. Never mind.

Certainly a excuse that would be used, if totally untrue.

When was the last time you used a telephone with a dial and a ringer?

Does not stop the language from retaining 'dialing the phone' or 'give some one a ring'

If you wanted to get Washington DC to eliminate the penny, find some way to blame them on Obama, the Republicans will ban them!

Repeat after me, Obamacoins! (They are only dark because he is President!)

It wasn't until vacations in Niagara and Quebec City that I remembered how inconvenient the #1 coin was.

Follow the Italians: ditch the penny and go bubble gum.

See ... here I am - hoping to get MORE metal coins back into circulation (think 'gold' standard - so as to prevent fake paper money deflation) ... and you go and throw water on my fire.
    ;)

No, thoughts will have to be just that much better, with the minimum ante being a nickel. Which in Canada, bears the image of a beaver, so make of that what you will.

Here in Australia, we have been without the 1c and 2 c coins for what now seems for ever. All transactions are still done down to the cent, and if you pay with plastic, or electronically, you pay the exact amount. But if you pay with cash, then there is a round down/up to the nearest 5c amount. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Nobody ever worries about it now.

In fact, there has been some discussions about getting rid of the 5c coin, as these are now the coin that ends up in the "penny jar" in some shops, or in the nearest donation jar.

The only thing that I am aware of that does not count down to the penny are our taxi meters. They increase in 10c increments, so maybe the cab industry is leading the charge to get rid of the 5c coin.
