    It's funny too, how the designers all march to the same drummer. Was walking the dog this morning, notice this older model Nissan's headlight:

    And how similar it is to second gen Prius:

    And a host of others from the same era.

    I live on specs, I give out specs all day long at work to people who don't understand why their $29.99 flip phone or their 1 GB RAM/8GB ROM Android 5.x device doesn't perform like a $899.99 Samsung Note 8.

    Specs are good. Knowledge is power. I RTFM. I have to RTFM for the customers, they can't do so themselves.

    In the immortal words of Patti Smith, "I work in a P factory, but it's a paycheck, Jack."

    Sorry for the rantlet. God must have loved 1D10Ts, He made so many of them and they all decided to chat in today, because tomorrow's the Super Bowl!

    The ones I hate - and therefore avoid are where you
    • click on the SPECIFICATIONS link - and they ask you for your email address so they can email them to you - I've got 2 dummy email addresses, but generally figure I can find out some other way instead;
    • go through their "build your own Jaguar (insert xyz)", and in the end it asks for your phone number or email address and they'll tell you the price. Hang up again.
    They must think we're fools - I did that once in 1979 - never again. There are plenty of other cars on the market if they want to play those games.

    I don't know what was wrong with the old Sealed Beam Headlight. I remember reading, probably in the '70s a Hella (I think) engineer saying that a round lamp will always be the best one - not sure if that's still relevant in the '18s?

    But what I do notice, is that turn indicators aren't as easy to see these days, tucked between a DRL, FOG, High, Low, Park lamp - I find they're often quite invisible.

    I hope they bring back ones like this please:

    @alanclarkeau

    Yes please, bring back the cheap and glass sealed beams, and autonomous, distinguishable turn signals.

    I was walking the dog the other night (getting monotonous...), stepping out into a crosswalk, and there's an oncoming car, that MAY be turning left across our path. His headlights are intense, but I can JUST glean a slight yellow pulse at the bottom edge.

    I actually contacted Transport Canada once, maybe a decade back, saying how some turn signals, artfully integrated in the headlight assembly, are worse than useless, dangerous.

    They said not to worry, everything is as it should be, approved, and so on. :rolleyes:

    You're lucky - I contacted the Australian Design Rules department re front lights about 12 years ago - mentioning a few cars with incorrectly wired FOG lamp switches - and mentioning invisible front indicators. I never had a reply - at least not yet.

    Some of those "nouvelle" fads taste great and are less filling. RIP Paul Bocuse.

    Yes, there are many "normal" hybrids like those. I'll throw in my CMax (it was a Euro-model before getting hybridized), Gen 2 volt, Malibu, Fusion, Escape, etc.

    I think many folks just don't realize the Prius is first and foremost a Japanese car subject to the design whims and fancies of their <ahem> very different culture.

    Story from a work colleague, in the 90's I think: his wife is layering up to go out, blouse, light jacket, overcoat, and something feels off... eventually realizes: she's got THREE sets of shoulder pads going.
