Why Do all Hybrids/EVs have such Weird Designs?

Whoa ! what's happened to my favourite "Z" tail lights.

 

Are we sure that these photos are legit? I was under the impression that they were an 'artists mockup' of what it might look like based on available info.

 

The Prime is already different with that Lexus grille.

 

Could this be an early Lexus: STRANGE VEHICLES THAT RUN ON RAILROAD TRACKS - 50'S CAR W/ COW CATCHER!

 

Don't hate me for this...but I *do* like the Gen4 Prius very much....and even up close I think it looks nice.

However, the weird thing is that when on the freeway and I see a Gen4...it looks like a 'toy car' going down the road ( for lack of a better term ). I don't know why...and it's probably just me....but to me the Gen3 just looks more 'substantial' when going down the freeway. It also may have to do with all the huge vehicles we have around here.

 

And the "Wave" on the rear glass.
One thing about our Primes (and the Gen4 Prii) is that though that kid got it right, "they look like clown cars", you certainly can't confuse them with the current (generally boring) crop of Asian cars. I like the lighting, front and rear of my Prime, while the night tends to conceal some of the garish design. Don't hate me for this; afterall, I bought the bloody thing, in spite of the design!
