Only if the coffee beans are shade grown, fair trade certified, and were transported by well paid little brown people in oar-powered boats or on the back of a donkey. Ohh and who have methane capturing devices attached to their rear-ends. I don't want to have to buy carbon credits after drinking my latte. :p

    This is just stupid...

    pkhoury: "All apples are blue"
other: "No they arent. This apple is red"
pkhoury: "That apple is blue. All apples are blue"
300 others: "My apple is not blue" x 300
    pkhoury: "All apples are blue..."

Now I dont fit into your mold either, however I more "extreme" in your eyes I am sure.

I don't drink lattes... Or coffee, or any caffeine except when I need it. Makes it more effective for those times when I need to be up for 2+ days, a can of coke/pepsi a day is all I need.

"Liberal" in the US, is still rather conservative. I am a socialist, so I think that breaks your scale.

Not a fan of obama, but happy he won over the other choice. He is far too conservative and US-politically-centric and not far enough over "to the left".

Who in their right mind thinks the economy is at a peak?! The argument is that "Bush created this clusterf**k and Obama inherited" it vs "Bush did excellent and everything was fine, then Obama screwed it up". And it is not really an argument if you look at the facts. Only people who believe option 2 are crazies... As for jobs it is not a number in the arguments, it is the derivative (1st and 2nd order) of that number that matters when comparing results over a short time span against two administrations or more. One of my economics professors in university liked to say that the US is like an aircraft carrier. It takes a lot of force to move it and once it starts moving, it takes even more so to stop it. Meaning if it is bad right right now, it is because something changed or happened long ago. To get it good again, it takes a lot of corrective action and then you are only decreasing the decrease of jobs until eventually you level off (dJobs'' ~= 0). The value of Jobs is still low, but when dJobs' is above 0 again eventually it will come back. It is funny to me how people think a single day or month can actually effect the US economy in any way in any significant way barring a national emergency.

As for the hate, dislike, or distrust of the military I would say it does come from attitude. Being in one of the most militarized regions (surrounded by air force bases and academies, as well as multiple army bases, and guard bases, and sat. tracking operations) I am surrounded by US military. There are some you meet that just irk you with arrogance and ignorance. It's like it is the wild wild west and they are out for revenge.

Im sure there are people that fit into your stereotype, just like there are people that fit into the hillbilly lifted 4x4 pickup truck stereotype. But it is not a great majority. As far as I know, a vehicle can't have a political ideology or sexual inclination. It's just a car.

You missed my point either deliberately or on purpose, I don't know which.
I wasn't putting hate on the US military personnel but rather i was pointing out that a lot of people, parents, might be quite willing to send their sons and daughters to a war defending their own country but they may not be so keen to send their kids to inflict revenge in foreign countries or fight another countries war. Who was it said, "If the whole world takes an eye for an eye the world will end up blind."

I'm lucky I guess and grateful that toward the end of the second world war the USA saw that it would be advantageous to the USA to keep the Japanese out of Australia. Europeans would also be grateful that toward the end of the second world war after massive damage had been done, the USA entered the war there to, and may well have won the war but not single handedly, but as part of a united fighting team.

If military service is compulsory to be a patriot then there are few patriots in this world. With less patriots there will be less funding for a war machine looking globally for a fight. That would have left you with no position to serve your country.

I love my job but I have bills to pay, that is why I do my job. Bob Dylan once said, "A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.." Under that definition I am pretty successful. I do serve my state in enforcing laws of that state but I don't carry on like the state owes me or the people owe me. I get paid, that's all I expect and all I want for recognition. If $87 a month plus board and keep wasn't enough you should have got another job. In Australia ex servicemen get a military pension after 20 years service, not in the USA? If you do then that pension is paid by those shirkers who never went to war as well as those patriots who did. If you think people should pat you on the back and cheer, join the speaking circuit or become an entertainer. There aren't enough spots in the military for everyone but just because everyone isn't in the military doesn't mean they aren't patriotic.

    Catgic,

I agree with the everything you have said about the sacrifices made by our military personnel.

I also realize that you are very passionate about this topic. But do you honestly feel that those of us (the vast majority of US citizens) who have not served in the military are merely "able-bodied shirkers taking up space in America"?

    Respectfully,
    DW

I'm guessing he's referring to the jobless who make no effort to find work, to improve themselves or who shun available work, or to those who feel that working is an inconvenience.

Does anybody like those people? I think they are disliked even more than Prius owners. :)

    The full original sentence was:

"Americans serving in the U.S. Armed Forces pay taxes as well as the able-bodied shirkers taking up space in America."

    The jobless pay no taxes.

Socialism, yikes. I, for one, don't want to emulate Europe (no one will bail us out on defaulted debt, with China and Russia more likely to invade as "peacekeepers" to calm the mass upheaval).

And let's just say the controller of the purse-strings, Congress, was Democrat-controlled since 2006 due to the Bushy backlash. It's one thing to drive a vehicle into a ditch, but to get it back on the road only to run it off the veritable cliff (our ongoing Keynesian catastrophe, and a potentially planned Cloward-Piven strategy) is another thing entirely.

^I have no idea how Phkoury can continue to claim to feel alone in his stance...he is clearly not, and it gives me hope for this country yet.

I also agree with the previous neocon statements...they hijacked conservatism with their big spending programs and faraway wars.

Bushit and Ocommie, quite possibly the worst pair of Presidents this country has ever seen.

I think most of us, at least in this forum, have a problem with government overspending, inefficiency, and are against corporate take-over of our politics. :)

I have had my prius for a week now. I have not encountered any "hate". I have encountered some ribbing from my friends that I may be considered gay, now that I've bought one. I kid back and remind them that I often ride a sport bike to offset the gayness. Oh, and I won't be selling my f-150 anytime soon because I won't transport my harvested deer in my new prius. I do believe us prius owners are a varied lot. (and getting more so as the popularity of the car climbs)
Wider acceptance of these great cars will follow. ( especially when gas prices climb past $4 and maybe $5/ gallon)

I actually enjoy having such varied opinion in this forum. It would be rather boring if we all thought alike.

    Welcome to PC. :welcome:

"Offsetting the gayness." Lol. I play a lot of Dance Central and drive a Prius. Guess I better get started offsetting.
