    ....manage to burn the roof of my mouth practically every time I make and eat a pizza. Why can't I wait for the slice to cool off enough so that it won't happen? And yet, it happens again, and again, and again!

    What does it seem that YOU always do that you wish you could avoid?

    People differ in ability of 'skin in the mouth' to withstand high temperature. You and I lost the lottery on that. It is possible or likely related to a very minor autoimmune condition. Merely an inconvenience by itself. Attend to other matters of your overall health.

    What I can't avoid? Mini-lectures like this.

    Chugging cold water on a hot body (chronic-cardio, endurance sports guy here) and triggering a bout of A-fib. Even worse is the fix - chugging a glass of warm cayenne pepper/water to zap the heart beat back to normal. I'm getting better about this in the last few years but am absolutely on the slow learners curve. Dumb-nice person...
