Yeah my first ad blocker allowed you to add sights to an exceptions list, and specifically for me that was amazon. Current ad blocker I don't think you can, or at least I haven't found anything, and haven't searched that hard. ^ Took a look, might have found how to unblock. FWIW, using Ghostery. Test an Amazon link: Not the world's best deal, btw... Nope, didn't work for me. Maybe Priuschat is blocking it??
Except for the too rare 'sexy lady' ads for dating sites, I pay no attention. The ones that obscure part of an article I'm trying read are a pest like a fly or a mosquito that got into the house. And I agree until I see a virus spreading pop-up. In those cases, SHOOT ON SIGHT with new entries in my '/etc/hosts' file. I have virtual PC software used to run Microsoft only, 3d party applications. Several years ago, it picked up some 'ransom-ware' and I got a strange phone call offering to release my virtual PC. I quickly fired it up and sure enough, it was 'bricked.' It took seconds to delete the virtual PC file and I never sent a cent. Truth be told, I've found Microsoft-only applications sound a lot nicer than they are in practice. They really have sh*tty interfaces and in real life, marginal performance. I don't fault others who swear by their Microsoft systems as much as they are deaf to MacOS and Linux users who swear at Microsoft systems. When I was working, forced to use them only increased my resentment. Bob Wilson
For me the only downsides of using ad blockers are websites blocking my entry for doing so. I realize that websites must monetize themselves in some way, but if tiny-value forced-eyeball access is all they've got, it does not speak well of their creativity. Many others link attractive content with click(bait). Apparently that is difficult work.
Today, if a site complains about any of my browser settings I just go somewhere else with the same content that is more compatible with my settings. And I usually find another site fairly quickly. I'm in no way saying that I never have complaints about how web sites are coded or presented to the visitor. I have plenty of those. Just sayin,,,, don't like my browser settings? Oh Well, have a nice day! I click on a lot of X's to close out annoying popups that block site viewing with so many different kinds of solicitations for so many things I'll never consider much less pay for nor signup for.
I think you REALLY should try a good ad blocker. I almost NEVER have to deal with those things........except the ones begging me to disable my ad blocker.
True enough Sam S 2. If I ever get frustrated enough by them I'll jump on the ad blocker extension in a heart beat. But, with the blockers the viewer can't tell if a page they are looking at is coded with crap. It's usually a dead give away at how well a page is developed when you see obnoxious popup bull stack right in the face on a home page.\\ wake up web site devs
At least it wasn't about erectile disfunction treatment ... those are found in my SPAM trap along with the Nigerian treasures offers. Bob Wilson
I clicked on 3 random ads today. But I just had to see what is new about the 2019 Nissan Leaf with ProPilot Assist starting at 29,999.00 for the 40 kwh pack and had to scroll fast to see the 63 kwh pack models before I got solicited from my location and choosing not to give it I was than dumped onto a choose your Nissan vehicle page. Like they can't tell where I am!
Gotta love the javascript ads with malware. I caught tripod asleep at the wheel, loading "javascript ads with malware embedded" onto my web page. Than they threatened me with a legal suit. Tripod "ya know what I'm sayin" We're the Millers
Prolong could be an excellent name for one of those products could have smiling Bob promote it from prison
