Why would the UK 2010 Prius have HUD (Heads up Display) and not its US counterpart? Would this guarantee the 2011 Prius will have it?

That will be something we can expect to happen and another justification for Toyota to increase prices.

Notice the Euro version also have LED signal lamps integrated in their external side mirrors. We have to special order a set for US$225 from Sigma Automotive if we want it! ;)

It in no way says the 2011 will have it as a guarantee. It's been said by Toyota on here that not everything can be included to keep costs down. Europe and other areas have things we do not, but they certainly do pay for these extra's.

There are many of us who would like these extra gadgets to be available but really, do you think Toyota wants to even think of marketing a $40,000 Prius here in the US? If one now wants all the toys of a Prius V with AT plus extra's like HUD etc they have to go for an HS250h Lexus but give up the extra 15mpg of the Prius...

Not just the UK that scores HUD, but all or most of Europe, and us Aussies as well (edit: and Kiwis). :D

We could ask the same question. Why do you guys get LKA and we don't?

I've heard HUDs were not legal in the US? Did I hear wrong?

You must have heard wrong... They were used here in some Pontiac models in the late 90's...

And even now, the new Lexus RX and HS250h has available HUD.

It's the way Japanese companies market in the US. We almost always get reduced content or functionality, then the company will slowly add the content available in the rest of the world and increase the cost for the "improved" product.

Japan almost never gets an auto-dimming mirror.

UK didn't get SKS for the Gen II, EVER.

Italy didn't get cruise control for the Gen II

Only NA-spec'd vehicles got the bladder and thermos for the Gen II.

    Only US cars got HIDs.

SE Asia doesn't get solar panels, DRCC or PCS on the Gen III

Only the US cars get LKA.

Only Japan and Europe get an HDD option for the navigation system (Japan has had it since 2006).

You can say a lotta things. Stop complaining.

Maybe because the OP has made two posts, both of which had been asked and answered several times before by other posters.

I'm all about helping people, but really, sometimes the search function can answer SO many questions without having to reask them again.

guess I should've worded it better. It wasn't so much directed at the OP (Cause he/she is new) but moreso that the "grass is greener on the other side" mentality without realising that you guys in the US have desirable features that other countries don't have. It's assumed that other countries get everything the US gets which isn't true.

The range in the UK has a different set up options to the US, base model is the T3 which is reasonably well speced (HUD, rear wiper, front fog lights, manually variable front wiper, single CD player, no cruise control, no nav, no sunroof). In general the UK market for any car tends to demand higher spec than elsewhere.

BTW, the manual mentions adaptive cruise control with radar - I don't think this is available in the UK, I guess because of restrictions on radio spectrum?

    Regards,
    John

I believe it was because someone decided that your motorways are too congested to have Adaptive CC to be a useful feature.
