I have a 2013 Prius with 261 k. I am an Uber driver in Chicago. After many rough starts and shuddering on acceleration from stop lights, I finally had my head gasket replaced. I had already done the EGR cleaning, replaced the PCV, coils, plugs, intake manifold. hmm??... the day after the head gasket was replaced I had one slight shudder on acceleration, but that was over a thousand miles ago. This morning, I had the rough start again... It did not last that long but I'm very curious and confused as to why this is happening. Any thoughts?

Should I just make sure to release the pressure everyday after I shut it down for the night?

it's pretty common in gen 3 to have random rough starts doe to system design, but some failure during hg replacement can't be ruled out

Rough starts did happen during the 230,000 miles that I drove the Prius, but they were infrequent. We shall see... No shutters on acceleration so far, that's good! I can put up with a rough start once in awhile, but not the shuttering on acceleration. I am going to try to relieve the coolant pressure every day after I drive by just popping the cap and putting it back on.

I got a great deal. Head gasket and water pump replaced for 1,500.

No. If that helps you have a head gasket leak. You want to know if its the gasket or not.

Who did the last hg? Did they resurface the head? Check the block and cylinder walls? Is the engine an oil burner? If so, at what rate? Are you confident the head bolts were torqued properly?

Yes, the the head was machined. Not a big oil burner, Maybe a quarter of a quart for three weeks was what I was adding. For the last Thousand Miles it has not been burning any oil. Maybe it's coincidentally one of those infrequent rough starts...??? It has been driving beautifully all morning. I am in it doing Ubers right now.

Do you wait until the engine stops running before shutting of the car? If not, there may be some
fuel still in it. And there may also be some condensation with a warm engine in a cold environment.

Once in a great while is not a problem. But as was stated, was it done correctly? Head bolts torqued?
Head checked? Machined if warped? ETC.

After letting the car sit and completely cool down, there should be little to no pressure in the coolant tank.

If it makes a presssure sound longer than 3 seconds, you have a HG issue.

Just a quick psst yesterday after driving all day. Tonight, I didn't release the pressure. We'll see tomorrow morning if it's rough or not.

No rough start, no shudder on acceleration. Why does it seem on the brink a rough start though fairly often?

Coolant level steady. Now it burns NO oil as well and yesterday after driving 150 miles, I averaged 52 MPG. Car is driving better now than it did when it had 35000 miles on it. Current ODO, 265,000!

Why is this? Slightly faulty factory head gaskets that lead to problems down the road but no major problems until around 200K? I ponder... Restrictive, congested EGR due to the carbon build up combined with "slightly faulty" head gasket will eventually lead to replacement needed? This is a job that the dealers don't even want to do... Comments?
