I don't think this comment on BMW is fair, just like comments against the Prius on performance excitement. There are plenty of people who love BMWs who own/lease and are not wealthy. BMWs are not suitable for everybody, but the people who own/lease them are quite passionate about their cars. All service and maintenance costs are covered for four years (except for tires). Cost of ownership besides depreciation (significant) during this period is minimal -- just pay for gas/diesel, and tires. What is true is that there are only a few people who own BMWs or other German cars who are willing to continue owning them beyond the warranty period because of reliability issues and high repair costs.

I think it is a good thing that BMW/Mercedes/VW are bringing more diesels into their lineup. And keep in mind, an idling Prius uses its ICE at startup and when batteries drain down. I'm sure every Prius owner has smelled the exhaust when their ICE kicked in yo -- not pleasant. I would not want to be in a closed garage with any running vehicle unless it's the Tesla or other electric car.

Why does every fool writer feel that we have to justify our car choice to him? You could pick on any type of car, but it is always Prius...Prius...Prius. I saw a bumper sticker on a black Humvee looking for a parking place at Whole Foods, one day. It said "Yes, I know, I don't Care". I almost feel the same way. I bought my Prius because I like it. There are lots of other cars out there, some fine, some not so fine, but I like driving my Prius. Get over it.

its better if BMW/Mercedes/VW are bringing more/any hybrids into their lineup.

Just five years ago, we were chatting if hybrids were "up to the chore". Here we are today, writers are complaining that Prius is such a bore!

    Change is as change happens.

Chat? It could have been called a spat, or even online combat!

    But enough of that.
