While I appreciate your line of thought and answer, I purchased a NEW un licensed vehicle and as the Manufacturer, Toyota holds the bag.

Parts ordered, will know more tomorrow.
Interestingly enough the Service manager mentioned that he too came upon this issue in his Prius while decelerating in a U-turn just this weekend.
Though seemed perplexed when informed, my problem is during acceleration and or coasting and never braking.

Word of caution remains, While at the Toyota dealer parts department this morning there are 2 rack assemblies. one for 15" wheels and another for 17" wheels.

Per a voice mail from the servicing dealership the main steering shaft and the intermediate steering shaft were deformed/ warped and had to be replaced.
While this may correct the knocking noise, I doubt it will effect the shudder once the car settles.
More importantly how could they become warped or deformed?
Knowing the rear of the car was repainted prior to it's original sale, makes me wonder.

The mystery deepens - Didn't you say you bought the car new from the dealer?

Bought NEW, did not find out about the re spray till much later and now this. Ever since the shudder problem have wanted the rack replaced and Toyota will do nothing.
Both the selling dealer and other local Toyota ones, did all they could to mask the symptoms by lifting the vehicle and never finding anything wrong.
Now, it seems evident that there is foul play at hand?

The respray was probably nothing more than repairing a few scratches on the bumper received from jockeying the car around the dealership prior to sale, somewhat common...

Now the same noise entering and exiting a driveway. Any driveway.

maybe take it to a good body shoppe for accident analysis. sounds like it should have been salvage. any problems with alignment and/or tyre wear?

Prime manual says not to hold car on full lock for long period of time or damage to EPS may result.

    You're in denial lol.

Good luck with your steering lock issue though, hope it gets resolved!

That would definitely bother me, as a purchased new vehicle.
Especially if now coupled with the discovery of warped or damaged steering shaft components.

I don't know if it's quite fair to say that was an active attempt to "mask symptoms". You could of had them ride in the vehicle before raising it on the rack.
And putting it on the rack IS what you would want to do to best look for any visual evidence of a problem.

Usually just the opposite. It's sometimes hard to get a dealership to put your vehicle on the rack.

I think Bisco's suggestion of taking it to an good and independent body shop for an evaluation might be a good idea.
Some of those guys are really, really sharp, and can tell pretty easily if a vehicle has suffered any structural damage.

But it might cost some, and you are banking on the skill of the person doing the evaluation.
