Yes, normally, the manufacturer would design everything, but since I am trying to convince them to make a new product, the easier I make it for them, the better.

Here is what I was thinking would work for mounting. Generally, there are some stainless steel plates that mount at the top of the windows to mount hinges, and a couple at the bottom with posts to latch the bottom of the louvers to. So here is what I came up with.

Top glass clips (option 1 wraps around the edge of the glass only, but would need to have a way to tension it)
    UperGlassClipOption1.JPG
Top anchors (option 2 very secure, but requires drilling in an inconspicuous area in the jambs)

Bottom latch pins can secure under existing hatch bumpers

I've had two sets of louvers, one for a Pinto hatchback and one a Nissan 200 SX hatchback. Both were aluminum. Neither involved any drilling. If drilling is involved you'll have to take me off your list. As much as I desperately want louvers, I won't drill into my car.

Not wanting to loose one of the more enthusiastic supporters of this idea, no drilling will be required.

    I read that. Yippee.

If I have to wait a year, I will.

I may buy two. One for now and one for a future Prius.

    Just get 5% tint.
Just as effective, you get to keep the rear wiper, available today! a lot cheaper, not as 70's looking, no decreased visibility at all...lets see what else...did I mention not as wanna be 70's trans-am looking?

Heat rejection is what really matters if you're trying to keep your car cool. not all 5% films have the same heat rejection and there are some lighter films that perform better in this regard.

Why not just have some options? Do you really think that everyone has exactly the same needs and preferences that you do?

Another update = Louver Manufacturer I have been talking with has their President's agreement they will make louvers for Toyota Prius if we can show an initial order of say 50 (not a hard and fast number). Delivery could be as soon as 4 months after that and the Prius louvers would then become part of their regular catalog.

The rep I have been talking with described to me how they did the same process for a Dodge Charger club recently. Therefore, I think I will drop by the other Toyota and Prius forums to see what additional interest I can dig up.

Don't forget the Orange County Prius Club. They're pretty active.

Maybe we have arrange a group shipment to So. Cal to help defray shipping costs.

I saw your poll on PriusOnline and voted for aluminum.
My "78" 280Z has the louvers but they were drilled hinges (when I bought it), no drilling for me on my Prius.:D

I had never heard of Orange County Prius Club, but I did find them with Google, and sent an e-mail to their leaders, since it didn't appear to me that they have an open forum format.

I think they're one of the local clubs listed for California on Priuschat. They are a pretty active group. OCPrius

Sergio at Astra Hammond sent me the brochure for their recent Dodge Charger project where apparently, the made both ABS and Aluminum options. I am still pushing for Aluminum for now.

He also sent me a photo looking out the rear of the Charger to show the view through the ABS louvers, and then I doctored it up on the right side only to contrast how much better I think the view would be though aluminum louvers. But not through rose colored glasses though.

That's my car, but they're not real. I cropped them in. I took them from a picture of a car on the site you referenced. I wanted to see what they would look like on the car.

Boy, tint those windows and you that could be my car (mine is '05 though). I've wanted louvers since day one of Prius ownership.

OOOoooo. Could I hide some yellow or red LED's inside there, so it would glow like impulse engines as I took off?
