Windows 10, yet, anyone?

Yeah, and I've never got used to touchtyping on laptop keyboard.

 

I have no personal experience or knowledge about this, but seems to me "I read/heard" somewhere that some of the fantastic deal electronics offered at the big box chains may be "speciality" items made especially for a particular sale period, such as Black Friday or Back-to-School and are made to the same standards that XYZ corporation normally makes their products.

Again, I don't really know...

And, I search and peck on laptop keyboards...

 

Are you really rocking 32 bit Windows 10? You seem extremely knowledgeable so I'm assuming you purposely did that. For compatibility reasons?

 

Just on a hunch there'd be less compatibility problems. I have some older scanners.

 

Decided to buy both laptops and take the one back that sucks.

My HP scanner/printer seems to work fine in scanner fax menu.

 

Wifey bought an HP B&W only LaserJet last tax season 'cause she was frustrated with our clunky slow printer that we have no put away in a closet.

Got it for $60. P1606dn. It does only one thing well, but it does it great. Print jobs speed out of it, crisp and fresh. Added bonus, distant relatives no longer send us photos on e-mail to print out for the in-laws because of their pix look like crap in B&W.

 

Yeah, I was holding onto an old USB printer that otherwise worked fine. When it came time to buy $40 worth of ink, I saw a Brother inkjet in the next aisle. On top of my printer, it had an auto feed flat bed scanner, wireless connectivity, Apple print, sd card reader. So I literally could just lock this thing in a closet and forget about it. And for only $80. I was running a print server from my desktop to print from my phone. The only thing it was missing from my old printer was fax. Since I haven't had a landline in over a decade, I deemed that acceptable.

 

Getting ready to chunk my two in the garbage once the ink runs out. Have two lasers that are ready to go that were cheap. Will miss the color but not the ink bills. HP make the best ink jet but I have never had any luck with after market carts. Like MIJ/OEM tires, you get what you pay for.

My previous photo quality inkjet was a HP, and it was no end of trouble, had me tearing my hair for years. Both connectivity issues and apparent internal mechanical failings. Also, I used to swear by HP's RPN calculators at my work, but their quality control seemed to take a dive (reputedly on purpose?): the last couple of calculators I bought either had buttons fail shortly, or had "nervous breakdowns" that could not be remedied by any means. I also heard HP made a press release, maybe a decade back, saying they were going to concentrate on corporate customers, not common folk. All-in-all, they lost my vote, lol.

I now am using a Canon PRO-100 for photo printing: uneventful, quality results, for maybe a couple of years now. Of course the (eight) ink cartridges will set you back about $20 apiece.

For mundane printing I picked up a Brother HL-3040CN LED printer (similar to laser), four or five years back, a refurb, for $80. Big sucker. It's been great too. When the toner cartridges need replacement (one black, three coloour) it's about $200~300 though.

Up here we have an outfit called Return-It, any defunct printers can be dropped off with them, to be responsibly recycled.

 

Bisco hasn't woken up yet. It's slow again.

 

Had to take my ink cart tray out and run very hot water over it to get it unclogged. Actually worked for one of the printers. The other had a bad cart tray for some reason..

Bought the Sammy laptop this afternoon and will get the HP laptop in the morning. May take the loser back unless they are both perfect then I am really screwed, glued and tattooed.

 

Man, I want a new laptop. Don't need one, just want one.

Just like earlier today when I saw a tanned blonde late-20-something in denim cutoffs and a white tank top get into a 1970s era Chevelle.

Dont' need either of them, and both would probably kill me. But I wanted them both at the moment.

Been my experience that common sense is better than two anti-virus programs.

 

Wow, did the rest of you choke on the 2 August rebuild of Win 10? Took a long time but I like what I see.

My laptops are getting faster for some reason. Might be the new drops. Also the new WIN10 drop is forcing me to sign into every site everytime but it does save my password. Strange mouse behavior. When I hover over an action object it lists several options (sometimes) and not just the click and launch/grab.
