None of your brilliant ideas worked. So I removed the hood liner enough to pull to back and disassemble the washer hose. There's a single tube that feeds both windshield washers, and it has a T-fitting. I removed the T-fitting, and it was completely clogged in the direction of the right-side washer. No amount of digging around with a wire seems to be un-clogging it, so I'm off to the dealer to order the thing, along with three replacement plugs I popped off of the hood liner.

You can see the T-fitting in the third photo.

Inline fuel filter would be nice idea to install now, when you got this far

@Rebound are you first owner, do you know the history, what's been used for washer fluid?

Yes, I've owned this car since new. Hmm... now that I think of it, something in my 110,000 mile Prius has finally broken. There's another $3.75 I'll never see again. I suppose I should complain about Toyota quality...

Next time you pull those Christmas Tree nylon push fasteners off, you may want to use a paint can opener.
They give them away at Lowe's or Home Depot in some parts of the world or you can buy them for less than $1
They're also helpful with those 2-piece fasteners that all of the OEMs are crazy about using on wheel well liners.

Every now and then a Christmas Tree fastener will go skittering across the garage if you're not careful, so it doesn't hurt to have spares, but they sell them everywhere.

I swear by that paint can tool for the typical push-in fasteners. Unfortunately the fasteners on the hood liner are a different style: plain cap, wide head, with a very thin edge. Maybe a putty knife and traditional fastener pry tool, in concert, might coax them out in one piece.

Best bet in this case might be traditional fastener pry tool, with masking tape to protect paint, under the felted liner as well.

i wonder what could have gotten in there to clog it, very unusual.

$24.75 for that stupid valve. And $2.00 for each of the hold liner clips

My '05 had a splice connector in the washer hose near the right fender. When it broke, I just got a generic one from Autozone. A couple dollars, I think.

I also think to's pretty odd for something to clog that "T." Maybe a bug flew into the tank while you were filling it one time?

The more I look at those fasteners the less I like them. Poor design, makes it very hard to access that plumbing.

OEMs like them because they're cheap and effective.
Use the right tool to extract them and they're re-useable.

    What's not to like?

I do not know, I tried pulling one out; it was having none of it. :ROFLMAO:

(Priuschat will NOT let me type d.u.n.n.o., sounds better. But it keeps auto-correcting it.)

To remove, press on the center disk. This will release the lock and then they lift out easily.

You mean the kind of fastener where there's a separate center button, you click it down, and that retracts the internal jaws. That's not these, at least not the hood liner fasteners on our Canadian 2010 (and I think Rebound's too): they appear to be a very skookum Christmas tree style fastener, with a plain head, wide and thin.

    Maybe this:

    Huh...
With all due respect to all those in this thread...
I'm kind of surprised so many people seem to just use tap water in their windshield fluid reservoir.

Even the most "High End" windshield fluid choices, are....well really, really cheap. I think they work better than plain tap water, help keep clogs from happening, and of course in winter most have freeze point protection.

I tell the dealership to NOT fill my reservoir, because they are apt to just add water and dilute my fluid.

Also, I don't much understand why they sell "summer" fluid around here. I might use one or two squirts during the summer, so that summer fluid is still going to be in there come winter.

Agreed. But sometimes people are in a hurry. I have only done that maybe a couple times. You're right that it doesn't work worth a hoot, but, when pressed, it's better than nothing ... till the temperature drops.

In California, you can only use the anti-freeze washer fluid in certain counties -- the cold ones. Here in the SF area, they only sell +32 windshield fluid.
