Wiring harness covers missing?

    Take a look at the photo included, on my v5, there seems to be a couple of covers for the wiring harness missing. I called a local dealer, and he assured me that this was normal, which seems kind of odd.

    There are mating clips for these missing wiring harness covers, if anyone has an idea as to what the supplier or part number is, I would like to know.

    Here on the tundra of Minnesota, a lot of salt is used and this seems like a oversight for the local winter climate here.

    I read an article recently where I think Consumer Reports was complaining that VW was pulling a bait and switch with trim pieces on the truck hinges. The show cars had trim and consumer cars don't. Could be the same thing here. There was probably a part designed and developed but they decided to not install it and save them a few bucks.

    It looks the same as my 2010 Prius. I was a little bothered by the open connectors but I have not had any issues to date with any connectors.

    I also do not recall reading about any issues here on PC.

    I looked at my v three, same uncovered wiring sockets.
    Doesn't look good, with lots of salt on roads in Michigan.
    Do you think i should cover the exposure with silicone?
    I don't like complaining (to Toyota), unless some Toyota Tech owner
    thinks its also a potential problem.

    If you look at the Prius v pictures that Danny posted back in May it looks similar to what you have - though it is difficult to tell.

    I can't comment on salt penetration as we don't need it here in Australia. My gen III looks the same and if you have a close look at the wires you will notice they run through tiny waterproof collars.

    I have hosed the engine down after it being absolutely fowled by rats and had no problems.

    You got it right. Those accessory covers are a panacea. There is absolutely no way to get a perfect seal with them, and they are more likely to retain moisture that may cause corrosion.

    Water vapor is a "gas" on the molecular level and there is virtually no way of sealing it out from insulated wire that pass though a gasket. In a marine environment, I've stripped wires in the middle of a long run of 10 feet or more and found the copper conductors corroded.

    The best way to assure as little moisture damage as possible would be to assure that the water drains away and drys off as quickly as possible.
