most likely that would only make them think, "see what would have happened to me if i wasn't in the hummer!"

If you have seen the movie "Over the Hedge" (very funny). There is a great line where the animals are looking up at a big SUV and one says: "And this is how they bring the food home", another says, "Its so BIG! How many humans fit in it? Reply, "Usually, one."

So the question is "How many tons of steel does it take to move one old lady from home to the bingo game?"

The pieces of the puzzle are falling into place and the image is quite disturbing. You are nothing but an old fashioned racial profiling cop. You are an embarrassment to your profession. One day, all your posts in this forum will come back to bite you big time. Just ask former Los Angeles Homicide detective Mark Fuhrman. You are not as anonymous here as you may think you are.

Guess it's time to bring up once again the Gladwell article (or pdf) about how SUVs historically are about psychology, and not reality. Were never safer, but somehow garnered the reputation.

I actually read the article in the Washington Post. I couldn't believe what I was reading! Regardless of sex, race, religion she is a selfish human that cares more about her "wants" then she cares about other people.

She has the nerve to install oversized horns in her Hummer so that she can scare other motorists that are not paying attention (using the phone and drinking coffee at the same time). My opinion is that she lost her "right" to condemn others the moment she bought the hideous vehicle.

I'm elated that she receives flack from other drivers! She should be treated like the outcast that she is.

This reminds me of a comment I heard at a conference in Houston. The man told the group of diners that he bought his wife a Hummer because she has epilepsy so that if she has a seizure she won't get hurt. I know that I made an nice person out of myself when I gave the guy crap over that faulty logic. Sure, maybe she isn't hurt, but what about the poor innocent person or animal that dies!

    Just a heads up:

Bigot: is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles or identities differing from his or her own. The origin of the word in English dates back to at least 1598, via Middle French, and started with the sense of religious hypocrite, especially a woman.

Bigot: is often used as a pejorative term against a person who is obstinately devoted to his or her prejudices even when these views are challenged or proven to be false. Forms of bigotry may have a related ideology or world views.
    ***********************************************
Racialism is an emphasis on race or racial considerations.[1] Sometimes this refers to the controversial belief in the existence and significance of racial categories. Racialism was very common throughout Europe, North America, and Australia through the 18th and 19th centuries, and continues on to a lesser degree today. Although the term is sometimes used in contrast to racism, especially in academia (it is in this case a synonym of scientific racism), it is also used synonymously with racism.

In separatist identity politics, the term may be used to emphasise perceived social and cultural differences between "races". Separatists may say that although they do not see themselves as superior to — or feel hatred towards — other "races", they nevertheless believe that the races should not live together (see white separatism and black separatism).
    ***********************************************
I tend to think the two words are used here erronisly as the word racist is used to describe more than just a black/white issue. It covers a more broader range of topics, example: people that believe that their race shouldn't marry outside thier own race wether its hispanic, black, white or indian. This to would be concidered being a racist.

You are not going to dig yourself out of this hole by quoting from Wikipedia.

You are the one who negatively stereotyped and painted broad generalizations about people based upon their race and the color of their skin.

My opinion is probably in the minority around here but I feel that is what makes this country great is the ability to choose. If she wants a hummer then she can pay for the gas. When the gas prices go through the roof then they have no one else to blame but them selves. Those of us in hybrids will not have a problem filling our tanks.

Heck, BBQ puts pollution into the air. Should we ban that. What is next on the list? I would not be oppose to an environmental tax being added on to the yearly property tax or vehicle registration to pay for the damage (put in research or clean up). What about diesel pick up trucks? Should we bash those also. I use to get comments about my F250, but no one asked why I had one. They just made judgements based on their lifestyle. I used it to move every 2 years so needed it to drag a trailer, also used it for landscaping, and moving wood (300-400 board feet at a time).

Do not get me wrong I bug the hell out of my coworkers about getting hybrids or at least more fuel efficient cars, but it is their personal choice. Harassing them (ie soap on the car and name calling) only turns people off. If not makes them do the opposite just out of spite whether they want to do it or not.

Great another fuel guzzling oversize vehicle on the road carrying one person. Including a driver with somewhat diminished reflexes sight and hearing. Who at sometime, probably in the not to distant future, will cause a major accident, & that because the size of her vehicle cause injury if not death to the occupants of the other normal size vehicle.
