I just filled up the "new" 2013 PiP for the first time. I have to say, it was pretty satisfying.

But I came away with a question and haven't been able to find the answer here or in the manual. I reset everything when I filled the tank the day I bought it (three weeks ago tomorrow). When I filled up today, the EV miles said "316" and the HV miles said "369." The trip meter read "705." What mode was I in during those other 20 miles that were not EV or HV?

At any rate, I calculate a cost of $2.89 cents per 100 miles with my gas and electric prices. Actually, it's less than that because about a third of the electricity was free at work.

Raw MPG from 7.706 gal. at the pump and odometer came to 91.5 MPG. Looks like I could have easily gone another 75-100 miles. Call me a satisfied customer! IMG_5738.JPG IMG_5741.JPG

I've never noticed a discrepancy between the trip counter vs. EV+HV miles, though I'm often not really looking at the latter - I tend to look at just the EV percentage and ignore everything else on the EV Driving Ratio screen...

I've been noticing right along as I've gone through this tank that they didn't add up. Maybe I didn't get everything reset at the same time? I'll see what happens on this fresh tank.

Meanwhile, I did a quick calculation comparing cost per 100 miles with this vs. the '05 that was averaging about 48 mpg. It would have been $33.05 for those 705 miles or $4.69 per 100 miles. It should save about $300 or so per year. The wife says it'll take a long time for that to pay back the cost of the car, but then again, the car is 8 years newer. No idea how you factor that in, but it is significant.

i think that's it. the only difference i've ever seen is the fractions. should be within a mile.
there's more to ev driving than cost savings.(y)

Thanks, Bisco. I may do that. If it's the sticky I think it is, I kind of set up my own spreadsheet inspired by that one. There were a couple things I wanted to track that weren't on there. I'll pop over there now.

Nothing super significant. I made mine like the picture below. I eliminated the liter/100km, which I don't need. And added a cell to enter cost per gallon to put into the formulas and then a cell to calculate cost per 100 miles and cost of that tank. Screen Shot 2017-01-15 at 8.38.07 PM.png

So for the Google Docs sheet, I gather that I would enter my data on sheet one under the yellow example area?

correct. after you're done, it's best to pm ken @ukr2 and ask him to move your data. he isn't around as much as he used to be.

Also, Bisco, my personal sheet has my own electric cost, which is lower than the Google Doc one. So, I think I'll try to do both so I can help with the stats for everyone as well as track my own costs.

Isn't interesting that Toyota only sold the plug in basically in the northeast and California -- two places with some of the most expensive electricity in the country?

ironic. it has to do with carb states. i guess we're investing more in infrastructure, to get away from coal and oil. our nuke plants were overpriced and are now obsolete.

If what I read is accurate, the power at our house comes from natural gas. We have a small house, so don't use enough electricity to get into a higher price bracket. I sure hope this car doesn't put us up there!!

we don't have tiers, though i wish we did. bringing in more natural gas is part of our cost problem.

Maybe because we're so close by ship from TX and LA here on the west coast of FL?

probaly. we're all pipelines. there are some png tankers i believe. demand is high though, with many people converting from oil heat, and new power stations on ng instead of coal or oil.
my brother and father are in estero, and their cost is quite low.
