Would you put "DIE" in your tire name? Sears is...

Err, taken in context "DieHard" is their brand
Chances are the tech that you liked at sears changed jobs within a few days, like a roll of the dice, you never know, but if sears gives a good price, well, it's all about the money.

And by now, I think a lot of people who recognize that brand name also know that when those batteries die, they die HARD. :ROFLMAO:

    I'm a big-box guy for tires.
You can get them a little cheaper sometimes at a tire-only store or online.....BUT(!) I get lifetime rotation and balance for free with Sam's or Costco, and since I don't live where people drive like morons, my tires have to last 60,000-70,000 miles.
Add that up, and it's hard to beat.....plus they'll order any tire I want.

If you go with Costco, remember to take the black valve stem covers off of the old tires before you go in, because Costco likes to replace them with lime green ones.

The green ones are just as good as the black ones, but people will snicker at your car in parking lots, and service managers will see them on your car and think that you're an easy mark for all of the scams that they like to pull on gullible people.
Keep the lime green ones for when you go in for your free rotation and balance, or just take the black ones back off again and start your own collection.
I have a quart mason jar full of them.

    Good Luck!

The tire name thing never occurred to me until I read the magazine piece about the brand.

I bought tires on Monday from a local independent shop. They beat TireRack by $15 USD -- in other words TireRack's total price, including shipping, installation (by an area chain shop of dubious repute) and all other fees was $15 more than I got from the local boyz, who, of course will give me free rotations, balancing, flat repairs for the life of the tires.

Not LRR, rather General AltiMax RT43, which score highly on TireRack and are much quieter and smoother than any other tire I have run on the Prius.

Sears, never again. I had to visit three different Sears stores to get the issues they caused fixed some three or four years ago.

Diehard reminds me of a rough and tumble sort of bloke movie. So yeah, I'll buy it. This posts reminds me of the Chevy Nova. It's a terrible name for a car in Spanish speaking countries as it literally means "no go." I wonder what they called that car in Mexico.

I've been told Chevrolet didn't know about the meaning the first year; so it was sold as a Nova in Mexico and other Central American countries.

Rather than the tire name, which I actually only used in headline because I thought it more attention-getting, I thought this was the most interesting part of the Tire Dealer story:

At one time, Sears sold close to 20 million tires a year. That total dropped to 3.1 million last year, according to Modern Tire Dealer statistics.

That is like an off-the-cliff drop. Of course, if a good percentage of people had the same miserable service I did, I see why.

Nearly everything else they sell is down as well. That is why they have been in so much financial trouble in recent years.

COSTCO did steal my blue valve caps from my blue car. Bastards. I got green ones installed instead, but the problem is I don't have a green car. But the prices were right. Thank goodness I still have about 80 blue valve caps left.

I ordered these. Not sure how solid they are, but they may be a bit harder to steal?

And equally harder for Costco to service the tires too. Removing the caps is an essential part of the service.

Keep the allen wrench in the glove box and remove them before the service. No biggie. I'm more afraid of some kid wanting them enough to wrench on the stems trying to steal them.

I thought the green caps were to indicate that you have Nitrogen in your tires rather than just air. That way some guy at jiffy lube or whatever won't top it up with air defeating the whole point of you paying more $$$.

I keep at least a pack of the standard valve caps in my Jeep all of the time. they're like $0.99 / 4 pack. I tend to lose them enough that I'll go through a pack or so in a summer as I drop my tire pressure to under 15 psi on the trail then back up to 32-ish (I truly aim for 27ish, but if I'm not over 34 I don't care) at the end of the trail. I would just leave them off but worry about mud on the stem and I've seen plenty of Schrader valves bent or damaged by rocks so I feel the cap does give me a bit of protection.

    What about names for children....

    Di anna for example. (joke)

Seriously, Diehard, as mention above, has been branded for decades.
I personally don't equate die hard to death in the case for Sear's product names.
It would be an interesting management decision to rename that brand.
