I'll double check in the morning, but I don't think that is necessary. I'm pretty sure I've always been able to start the car using SKS functionality after the above process without touching the switch on the armrest.

Sorry for the delay been busy at work.
I was about to take some pictures of the lower grille block I used.
And thought Saturday would be a nice day, seems someone else thought it would be a nice day also!?!?
    **Warning-Short Story**
I pulled into a different coffee shop as I saw three Prii's sitting there.
Went in and ordered and got into a convo about the car.
    Mileage, Mods, Price, etc.
I was telling them about Priuschat.com and the FE and grille blocking.
They left and I stayed to use the WiFi to answer some mails I just got and to read the SunTimes.
I got into my car and took off about 15 mins after the other Prii's left.
I noticed that the temps weren't comming up like before, it was cold out....37f
So I just shrugged it off.
Got to work and was walking away from the car and for some reason I looked back........NO GRILLE BLOCK......Gone!?!?!?
    I had been Blocked Snatched!

    The material I ordered was AP/Thermacell in a sheet 36 x 48
1 inch thick with R4 rating.
I had cut it to FIT the whole lower grille plate.
It laid flat and really didn't look like anything was there, just black.
It was held in with commercial carpet/tile tape.
Maybe this WAS over kill, but the temps and FE were high for the 5 days I had it.
I sold two strips to others at work, making up for the 25.00 cost for the one sheet.
Now I have the foam insulation installed, and I'm so bummed out.

Good news, the fancey block had my mpg from 68 to 72 on the 31.7 mile trip each way. I never had to go further than 1 mile to be at 150f

Sorry Wayne, maybe I can order more and make another WITH pics before it gets snatched. :(

You did such a good job convincing somebody of the virtues of a grille block that they stole yours? Nasty.

Hey, are you still working on the wheel covers?

And I thought Prius people were all nice people.
I hope they leave it in through summer and cook their engine then get warranty denied.

the statement that fans come on between 202 -212???

when i use grill blocking, i see temps in the 2's (high i think i remember was 208) but i have only heard the fans come on one time, that was in my 2004 in August with temps at 101º. i was crossing the Cascades and stopped to pee (didnt need gas!@!) as i shut down, i got out to stretch a bit and after about 20-30 secs, the fans came on and yes, they were loud. but they only ran about a minute and shut off. they were off about a minute, then came back on and ran maybe 45 seconds or so...(didnt think to time any of this, so numbers are probably off)

now back then, i didnt have any monitoring equipment so dont know what the temp was. but like i said, i have seen 208º on milder days when my grill was blocked and no fans.

Yes I am still looking into the wheel covers.
Been way too busy with work.
I have the EBH and the grille block, 'tho not the one I really want. :(
Guess I should STOP talking about the cool job I did on that one! :)

Not sure I can convinve the industrial contractor in PA to ship one piece again.
    He said boxes of 12 @ 25.50 a sheet....I don't need that much material.
Maybe later I can start fresh again and get pics before it vanishes again.
Damn it looked nice and held the temps good.

    I'd use black Corflute.

Yes, corflute would be simple, but it doesn't flex and bend well.
Not sure you can get a 1 inch thick piece to wrap the curve the front grille has either.

The AP/Armaflex is very flexable and can be made into a complete circle if need be.
I also liked the R rating and the ability to block the "FULL" lower grille, with the exception of the 1 1/2 inch hole for the EBH plug.
The piece I had was full top/bottom and side/side, with the curves included.
A guy at work helped with a cutting machine they have and it fit snug as a bug! :)
