Just picked up my new '15 Prius Persona today!!![IMG]

Has anyone installed an HID headlight kit similar to this one? Is it easy to install, are there any step by step instructions? Will the headlight lens hold up over time?

I bought the "Volt" version from xenondepot. Works great.

Another vendor, xenonsupply, has two youtube videos on how to install on a Prius. Those same instructions are applicable regardless of which vendor you choose.

I noticed there is a headlight bulb and what is other small light above the headlight, does that have a different bulb ?

    iPhone ?

The problem is that there are so many vendors I wish there was a review site that breaks it down. Btw why did you go with the Volt version vs the xtreme HID? Since HID is older technology have you seen people using LED bulbs. This one is just plug and play, no ballast. H11 Philips LED bulb | H16 Philips LED bulb | H8 Philips LED Fog bulb

I don't know anything about Xenon Depot HID.

What I do know is that The Retrofit Source has a good track record as far as HID Systems.

Morimoto Elite HID Systems are robust. I've had it for almost 2 years now and I'm confident it has many more years to it.

It's expensive but worth the $$$.

Easy to install and any concern about the ballast and the 12v battery? What did you exactly order with yours?

It was a friend. I'm sure it will be different depending on where you go. I'd say $75 or more.

I bought the Volt version to save money. I originally bought it for my 2012 Camry at the end of 2011, and transplanted it to the Prius when I bought it. Thus, it's been going for nearly 4 years with no problems at all. They threw in a relay harness at my request for free, so I really didn't see the extra benefit of the xtreme kit versus the Volt.

Regarding the plug and play LED bulbs, I'm not seeing the point since the lumen output is less than an HID. This is of course not comparable to the factory LED projectors on the Prius Fives.

Mine is plug and play. It's been 5 years and so far so good. The small bulb above the headlight is the parking light. The Gen 3 Prius has two parking lights - the forward facing one on top of the headlight in white and the side facing one with the amber cover. You can replace the forward facing one very easily. I replaced mine with LEDs to match the colour of the HIDs.

Which ones did you buy exactly?

I was thinking of going with the h11b xb 6500k Morimoto elite hid system. 6500k is a bit more blue, but the useful light output is better than the 5500K.

I think you have that reversed. The light output of the 5500K would have better usable light output than the 6500K.

Best visibility with 4300K to 5000K.

I'll post something from the Morimoto site in a sec that shows what I was referring to.

I went with Mobile HID 5000K. It was a toss-up between that and XenonDepot. 5000K is a good balance I think between 4300K (for best light output and close to factory look) and 6000K (for the white colour with a hint of blue, kinda like LEDs).

If you search ClubLexus or ToyotaNation, you may be able to find discount codes for XenonDepot.

6500k - you can tell that there is more light than 5000k

Look at the lumens value in your first image, 3300 is greater than 3100.

Then look at the lumen rating for the 4300K, which will be higher than the 5000K rating.

Stick with the 5000k then? When I spoke to TRS they told me to get the h11b not h11a bulbs and that I should get the Canbus harness instead of the HD relay since it's a much easier installation. When I input the year, make and model on their website it doesn't allow me to choose the Canbus unless I back out and go in without a vehicle. Is Canbus the way to go?

What parking light bulb do most people go with to match the 5000k's?

194 LED Bulb - 5 SMD LED Tower - Miniature Wedge Retrofit | Miniature Wedge Base LEDs | LED Car Bulbs | Super Bright LEDs

This is what I use for the following locations:
    • forward-facing parking light (I left the side one alone after another PC member suggested it's not worth the extra cost for a brighter amber light)
    • front map lights
    • licence plate lights
    • front door courtesy lights (I actually use red lights. It's a nice contrast to the blue illuminated PRIUS door sills)

The rear dome lamp and cargo light use festoon bulbs. I use cool white for the rear dome lamp to match the map lights and I use natural white for the cargo area light. It looks like incandescent but much brighter than the stock light.

I would buy extras as sometimes they fail (esp. if you live in a hot climate or leave the car parked outside). The parking light is a small area and is fully exposed to the sun (esp. with the chrome finish of the headlight assembly) so the bulbs there tend to fail first because of heat. I'm on my 3rd set. My licence plate lights are on the 2nd set. The interior lights are still the original set since they're not on as often. I've first installed the LED lights 5 years ago. The parking lights and licence plate lights I have installed now have been there for 3 years now so for some reason this last order of lights have lasted longer.
