lol interesting post. No market for 100 mpg cars for America? China has overtaken you for oil use. Saudi can't get it out of the ground fast enough. You complain about $4 a gallon - then wait until it hits $6 or $7.

Sure more fuel efficient SUV's are a great short term measure for reducing your Countries oil use and helping people cut costs whilst not affecting their standard of living. But the clock is now ticking and vehicles have a life of 15 years, so if you buy a fuel efficient car today, it'll demand a higher trade in value in the future.

You also know your comment about SUV's being safer is a little weak. This is certainly not always the case. Also, America has some of the most dangerous roads in the Western World. So perhaps improve safety and you won't need to drive around in tanks doing 14 to the gallon. Dead easy to do - reduce speed of trucks and restrict hours they can be driven and have a proper standardized driving test. Driving is a priviledge not a right. The increase in costs to trucking will be offset by the reduction in all your insurance premiums. Each accident and death costs you all.

Your accident and death rates are high, yet your regulation is low. Work it out. ;)

btw, this also means that quite possibly next generation Corolla will have this 1.5l HSD as well as 1.8l HSD... makes total sense as in Europe, Yaris and Corolla share 1.33l Petrol and 1.4 D4D diesel...

Where is the HV battery? Is it under the rear seat like Prius c?

yep. I just saw german price, it is excellent, it is cheaper considerably than similar Yaris diesel (well not considerably but decently so).

and they did a really really smart thing by raising it appearance with aggressive front grille, new front headlights with projector beams and LEDs and aggressive new rear LED design. All together, looks like you are paying for more premium product, and not really paying a lot more at all.

it is clear to me that in the future Toyota plans to price its hybrids at same or lesser pricing levels as diesels, this is excellent news and they will start to sell a lot more hybrids in Europe.

And the fact Toyota Europe have stopped developing diesel engines and will in future use BMW units also confirms that hybrids are their future direction.

If you think about smog pollution - every hybrid replacing a diesel is actually like taking 20+ diesels off the road. :)
